Optus Prepaid so locked to Optus I think.

"Will not be wasting your time with the spec here"
Proof that it's not wasting time to provide specs with a listing.

    POST only active deals. =P

How well does Android 3.2 on a 7" with regards to screen ratio>?

    • +3

Active deal restriction only applies to group buy sites, amigo:

A deal is inactive when a site requires X amount of people for the purchase to go through
and that number hasnt been reached. (e.g. 35 bought, 65 more required to get the deal)

As for 3.2 - this tablet only has a 800 x 480 (WVGA) screen whilst all the current 3.2 tablets have 1280 x 800 screens, so it probably won't go over too well. ICS might be a better fit.

      • 800x480 seems ok for 7in screen?

        • Nah aay

        • Still way too low. But I have checked the tab once and thought it is ok. At any rate you get what you pay rite?

        • Depending what you do. For ebooks it is ok. otherwise it is too low.

        • Yeah, but Android 3.2's interface is more skewed towards the tablets with their higher res screens. AFAIK the few 800 x 480 tablets around use the phone branch of Android because of this.

        • Way too low. Lack of crisp images, this tablet will show.

        • Wouldn't want it any lower.

if people posted only active deals we would miss out on a lot of deals

      • Sorry I meant positive!!

  • Note that there doesn't appear to be any details on this deal on the Optus website.

Just a small block at bottom right of the OP's linked page.

Could you work on your attitude ?

        • enough with the Grammar Naziing ( Yeah that's right it's a verb now)

      • +2

        ohhhh don't be so nazist

    • I didn't think Honeycomb supported use of 3G for phone.
      Feel free to correct

  • So, how can it be unlocked? Apart from screen everything looks alright. dual core and stuff. I am quite interested in this.

    • I don't think its dual core (confusing because Dell use the same device name for its new 7" DC tablet). It's single 1ghz CPU

      • There's no other Streak 7 - this is a tablet, with 3G (ala. iPad with 3G), not a phone.

IMO, 840x480 makes this bottom-end fare for a "tablet" - without any special features this is junk in 6 months.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Dell (Sony, Samsung and other "innovators") won't build-in (DVD) IFO+VOB playback - I'd buy a device just to watch my DVDs. Transcoding is such a time waster.

      • It's dual core, mate. Dual core is not too expensive atm. It uses Huawei 3G module so if you look up IMEI number, it'll appear as an Huawei device :)

      • +1

Uhh Correct me if I wrong(I'm not!) but tegra 2 is Dual Core unless you live in some parallel universe where Tegra 2 was single core

  • confirmed, this is unlocked!

    • did you contact optus?

    • can anyone confirm this?

    • Didn't it said available from 21th November? Where did you get yours?

    • how did you confirm this??

  • According to the specs on gsmarena, it only does 3G on the 900hz band. So it appears to be incompatible with NextG.

But 16gb internal memory, micro-sd expandable and dualcore processor make it pretty attractive.

    • i'd say this one is a diff model, like the samsung galaxy tab.. where there p1000 and p1001 something like that…

      • not to mention, i want this to use with Telstra :)

        • dell's (US) website specs shows:
          Bands
          1G/2G: GSM @ 850, 900, 1800 & 1900 MHz
          EDGE @ 850, 900, 1800 & 1900 MHz
          3G: HSPA @ 850, AWS, 1900 & 2100 MHz
          4G: HSPA+ @ 850, AWS, 1900 & 2100 MHz

  • Is it 5 inch or 7 inch?

  • +1

7 inch tablet. nVidia Tegra 2 (possibly underclocked a bit). When it was announced, the OS was Android 2.2 (froyo). It should be upgradable to Honeycomb (and perhaps Optus already upgraded it). Hard to tell the 3G bands this thing support (most likely both 900 and 2100 are support, no 850 NextG support).

Battery life ~ 3hrs and below average LCD screen (compared to other name brand tablets) are two main issues. Still, it is the cheapest branded Android dual core tablet with 3G + 16GB built in at the moment (in Australia). I think Acer Iconia Tab (Wifi Only - $250) wass a better buy, but they are no longer available at that price.

Main competitors for this tablet (in the US) would be Amazon Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet. Both of those have IPS screens (but no 3G) at really attractive prices ($199 and $249).

  • Has anyone been able to get on of these from Optus yet?

    • Nothing from North Sydney.
The sales lady said it is out of stock [???]

    • Try to call the sales number on the bottom and get transferred few times, they know nothing about the product and said they can't get me one!
      OPTUS has really bad services!

      • I got the same crap when I rang. Pathetic.

  • Done the run around with Optus… here is the info on this one..
Its locked (confirmed!) you need to recharge at least $80 to then get customer to unlock it.
They had a dealy in shipment, and its becoming available this week in stores.
You CANNOT but online, not the online sales number advertised.
    Hope this helps!

  • hope dicksmith and hv selling this tablet half price soon :)

  • DS and HN don't seem to know anything about it. Bit the bullet and bought one from Optus today.
