Dell S2721DGF Dead Subpixels

I finally received my S2721DGF from the now-(in)famous August deal, but I've just noticed a really annoying dead pixel around the center-top of the screen. It's a bit disappointing as I've never had a single dead pixel in any of my monitors and I've kind of come to expect so.

Dell's dead pixel policy only covers 6 or more dead sub pixels. I have two - blue and green.

Am I just really unlucky or is this the norm? Has anybody had any luck getting an RMA for fewer than 6 dead sub pixels?

Update: I contacted Dell just in case but nay, they wouldn't replace it :( With a bit of luck it will explode within the next 3 years or something.

A single dead pixel is only annoying because you know it's there! 🤣

No harm in trying to contact Dell and see what they say.

I thought I had a dead pixel on mine. I was heartbroken. But turns out it was a bit of fluff. Now there's just a small unnoticeable smudge from where I swiped it away.

I feel for you OP. Once you know it's there you'll never forget it.

Bad luck, could have been any of us. Definitely try Dell.
It's always a relief when you get a tv or monitor that has no defects.
You can live with it but it is a pain.

The standard they may rely on is ISO 13406-2. You have a 'stuck pixel' where one or more sub-pixel are always off (they are also called dots by some people).

    Here you go…

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_13406-2

    https://www.tested.com/tech/1337-we-uncover-the-dead-pixel-policies-for-every-major-lcd-maker/#:~:text=In%20area%201%20(the%20center,same%20treatment%20under%20ViewSonic's%20policy.

Whilst Dell acknowledges 'while defective pixels do not necessarily impair the performance of the monitor, they can be distracting, especially if the pixels are in positions where viewing quality is reduced'.

If you are really, really not happy with it, drop them an email and see what happens. They may come to the party. They may not.

If you think it is really unacceptable and want to take it further, do so. Depends on how pissed off you are :)

i also have complaints about the quality of mine but not dead pixels… there is a lot of bad black uniformity in these monitors… the blacks look like absolute shite and the brightness and contrast are dark af on anything lower than 80%, you can tell on anything that isnt white.

you truly do get what you pay for because my acer predator looks way better even though they should be identical apart from the dedicated gsync.

its unfortunate but i can live with it… disappointing.

If Dell don't come to the party, mention ACL. The monitor isn't performing in the way it was intended, a dead/stuck pixel is annoying and can be distracting, thus diminishing work efficacy or enjoyment of whatever you're watching/playing on the monitor.

    • Great response - I love it when people know their consumer rights and advise others accordingly.

  • yeah i had a dead pixel on mine. just rang them and said yo wassup with this and they were like we will send you a new one. this was the second dell monitor ive had dead pixels and they swapped the first one for new also.

  • I wonder is there paid service or manufacturer which offers total no-dead-pixels guarantee? I would be happy to pay a bit more to get guaranteed no dead or bright subpixels.

for example Dell covers only "bright pixel" defects: Dell offers a Premium Panel Guarantee that ensures zero "bright pixel" defects on Dell UltraSharp, Professional, and Alienware monitors.
