I'm looking to cancel my AMEX but have $900 credit that I need to use before cancelling. Planning to book an interstate flight home for next year and then cancel the card but just wondering what would happen if I had to change my flight. Has anyone booked a Qantas flight with the travel credit and then tried to change the flight after the credit card is cancelled? Would AMEX or Qantas be managing the flight change? I've emailed AMEX Travel about it and they were a bit vague about it.
I think my membership will renew before I intend to fly so trying to cancel it before then.
Similar situation. I was just going to downgrade my ultimate AMEX to a standard one so i stay as a customer until i actually fly. Otherwise i imagine it could be messy in the event the flight gets cancelled given it's all booked on AMEX credit
Would be interested to find out. I used by $450 on a flight which I now need to cancel as they shifted the departure time by 12 hours. Hoping they will refund me as credit into my Qantas account as otherwise the Amex credit gets forfeited

For anyone else in a similar situation this (Qantas AMEX Ultimate), I was able to cancel my flight free of charge via AMEX travel and will be refunded the original $450 AMEX Travel Qantas credit to be used within the next 12 months. Your results may vary as I cancelled due to a significant change in the flight schedule.
If you booked your flight through amex travel, regardless of using amex credit or not, even if u cancel your card, you still have to go through amex for any changes. They will issue you a flight credit if airline cancels your flight however the name on the original booking cant be changed.
Is it AMEX travel credit or airline specific?
Airline specific for mine since the card is Qantas ultimate.
If Amex don't even know how their own card operates, then it might be safe to wait until the day after your flight and then cancel the card!
