great price. only disappointing thing is no blu-ray or full hd screen, but i guess that's what you expect for the price!

  • couldnt have put it any better myself..

i've read plenty of horror stories on whirlpool re. this seller, BE WARNED! I was looking to buy this from the seller before I read all the horror stories…

    • +5

True. I was so tempted to buy from this seller until I read some of the negative feedback on his page. After more research, I opted not to go through with the purchase. A lot of terrible reviews for this seller from whirlpool forum users. Buyer beware.

  • what is an ULTRA SATA hard drive? just ASUS's way of saying drives in raid or ..?

    • that or saying 7200rpm since Asus mostly uses 5400rpm (sometimes even in the G series but rarer than the rest)

avoid this seller, I was thinking about buying from them until I read the full feedback. from the people that buy the laptops (not the other junk), There's a very high rate that say the models are refurbished. place on top of that that the fact that they are managing to somehow grab new models of discontinued stock, you don't have to be a genius to figure out something is a miss.

AVOID. Dodgy seller. Plus you can get a similar Clevo machine for a similar price from affordablelaptops.com.au or logicalblueone.com.au, both much more reliable vendors.

A friend about 12 months ago purchased a similar laptop from this seller at a similar price. The laptop wasn't sealed, didn't even have the basics like booklets, official power supply etc… Anyway, he wasn't too concerned (I guess the whole awesome spec'd laptop allowed him to overlook these). The laptop failed within two months and when I took a look at it, the serial numbers had clearly been tampered with (i.e. the label was a dodgey sticker over a poorly removed older label). I called Asus Technical Support only to find the serial number wasn't valid (as you'd expect).

As I was in the market looking for one myself, I asked this seller (and a few similar priced sellers) a question with regards to refurbished laptops and whether he could guarantee the laptop is exactly as listed (i.e. Brand New). I was promptly replied to with a ban from browsing his listings. I found out afterwards that this seller was the same one as my friend bought from.

As a result, I've marked this deal as a negative over the dishonesty the seller employs in his laptops and as a warning to other tempted buyers to read and believe the feedback the seller is receiving.

      Thanks for the heads up.

Yo Scotty (or any mod), could we possibly get a feature to rate & comment stores/store profiles? Then we could have this guy pop up as a twat every time a deal is posted about him, and we wouldn't have to stalk every deal to make sure people weren't getting duped. eBay would have to get patched to refer to specific sellers, but I'm sure you're up for that ^.-

      • I've said this for a while. There should be one main vote button (for the deal itself) and a side vote button for the seller (not the deal itself). It would save a lot of arguments over 'not a valid neg blah blah'.

  • Thanks for the warning.

This was the best price i could find. he also has full hd and blu-ray available. all depends what your looking for. as for the whether it may refurbished or not, ill let you all know once i recieve it, which im hoping is today, but within the next few days.

good luck mate - hope we're all wrong :)

    • How did you go? did you receive it yet?

  • its cheap for reason, because they are refurbished seconds…

  • Well that was fun, im glad i posted this up,

but nobody offered any other ideas about gaming laptops …. :-(

If you are after the cheapest price possible and can forgo some specifications (i.e. DVD-RW, not BluRay, no OS - assuming you can get cheaper elsewhere), then perhaps Clevo would be worth a look:

The higher the spec goes though, perhaps the Alienware is worth a look.

Prolly best to go for through a legit and authorised Asus reseller. Just not worth taking a risk.

  • i think after reading the whole post and review on whirlpool i believe that this deal needs more negs so that the possible buyer be notified of this dodgy seller. i dont want fellow ozbargained got scammed

sob sob…i think u might be right :<

well that was a great first post

Don't take it personally. In fact you've done everyone on OzBargain a favour by opening this discussion, so thanks. :-)

  • Ebay are such a toothless tiger when it comes to sellers like this. I'm sure there must be a way to track new seller registrations or make them harder to get (100 point id check), but they can't be bothered.

  • Ebay aren't bothered because they make money of fraudulent auctions.

Reading the whirlpool forums (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1231156) it seems like these have had the serial number changed, which normally indicates stolen goods.
