Looking for a Foldable Bicycle

Looking for a Foldable Bike, any recommendations?

So far I've noted ones at Decathlon and Kogan for $199, although more skeptical of the Kogan one. Any ideas?
Also noted that bikes have been cheaper in the past pre-covid times, but it is what it is.

any bicycle is foldable if you're strong enough.

    • Be careful though, as it depends on the frame material - you can't unfold carbon frames (or it would cost you a fortune to repair the carbon fibre lay-up)!

  • im looking for this brand only Brompton
    in particular, https://www.brompton.com/bikes/special-editions/gold

  • Cheap folding bikes are horrible to ride as a general rule. Decathlon and Kogan sell cheap stuff, typically the cheapest they can buy.

What is your budget and what is the bike for? If it’s just a 2km ride to the station cheap might work, but if it’s for regular cycling as a tourist, but folding so it fits in the caravan Tull want something decent.

    • It's for casual / some exercise; what do you suggest is a decent budget and from where?
Can spend on it, just as with all other things; there almost doesn't seem to be a limit on how much you can spend on a bike.

      • I personally wouldn’t buy a folder, I’d make other compromises first, like buying a bike rack etc. I don’t really follow prices for folders either, but suspect that $8-900 would be a minimum spend.

FWIW I have range of bikes and am happy riding cheaper, but quality bikes, but won’t consider owning anything from Kmart, Kogan etc. just too cheap and nasty.

        • Whats your thoughts on Dahon? They seem to be a bit more reasonably priced than Brompton.

I drive a coupe so not sure what the bike rack options are like.

  • It depends how heavy you are. I don’t think they support 120kg

    • 65kg; not sure where your assumption came from.

      • Just putting it out there. They have very small and skinny tyres

  • Why do you want a folding bike? They are generally horrendous to actually ride.

    • Possibly fitting two in the rear of a hatch. Yeah, quite uncomfortable with the shorter cranks but convenient.

I had that idea but mountain bikes are way better for long distance

      • Much better to get a bike rack and bikes that aren't rubbish.

        • I get ya. Some people are very casual riders that go 20 mins and then are too tired lol

          • +1

@jackinyourbox: I think 20 minutes on a folding bike is actually classified as torture by the UN.

  • I have a Brompton and I love it. They are a bit pricey, but the build and ride quality is worth the extra dollars.
