My wife is suggesting that we buy a new mattress (and by 'suggesting' I mean, she has decided we are buying one).
The one we have now is Queen size, 10yo and cost about $2000. The ones she is looking at (online, as we are in Melbourne) are about the same price. Inner springs (preferably steel), with about 80-100mm of memory foam on top and all the usual stuff.
Here's the thing. Similar items are available online for under $400. The ones I have seen have quite good reviews (and I am wary of reviews, but they are mostly positive) and the pics look good, and they have a warranty.
Amazon has Prime Day next week so the deals might get even better on their units. I have looked at the brands Zinus and Giselle Bedding, and they both look OK.
While I am just as keen as she is to have a decent mattress for the next 10 years, I am also quite happy to have $1500 in my pocket for the next time we are allowed to get out of the state and go anywhere. That could be the difference between a vacation in Mildura or in Milan.
Has anyone got any experience with an Amazon mattress, or other online vendor?

Why don't you try suppliers like Sleep Republic, Sleeping Duck, Ecosa or like Koala? They come with a 100-120 day Sleep Guarantee/ night free trial with delivery.
I have a Queen mattress from Sleep Republic and it is an excellent mattress. It is around $1200 with 12 year warranty.
I'd check out Koala and Ergoflex. We bought an Ergoflex memory foam for our bed about 4 years ago and it has been fantastic, easily better than any spring mattress we have had, and no sign of sagging or wear. Will cost more than Amazon, but nowhere near the $2k you were looking at.
We have a Koala in our spare room which we got when they had a sale on. Gets a lot less use, but is just as comfortable.
I was worried they would be too hot for me, but hasn't been an issue at all.
Buying a mattress is a experience.
You visit few stores, try out few.
You then confused what you want , so you buy the most expensive one with highest discount to make you feel good.
And you skip all that and buying from Amazon, how dare you?Very hard to find and buy a good, reasonably priced mattress. I will never buy another MIAB again, but I resent paying 2k+ in Harvey Norman as well because I know they don't cost anything like that to produce.
I once bought a sealy mattress. It was the most comfortable bed. Then a few years later i ended up buying one from ebay. The foam types that come in a box. had a bad back pretty quickly.
My next is to try the sleeping duck brand or buy a sealy bed on facebook in new condition

Haven't bought mattress from Amazon. Bought a King bed frame through Amazon marketplace before though (for the free shipping and it costed only 175)
When I first joined OzBargain, I saw deals for the ZzzAtelier mattresses quite often. Though the comments section were quite mixed, I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I had the best sleep since then. It's been 1 year and 4 months, my mattress still feels like new - no issues.
So far I have bought 3 (1 King, 1 Queen for 2nd bedroom and 1 King Single for guest bedroom). Really happy with the quality and mostly how cheap they are. Total cost for 3 mattresses is less than 1 big brand name mattressMy sister came over and tried the mattress. She asked me to get her one as well

No - but at $400 as opposed to $2000 you could replace your mattress every 2-3 years. Which is probably going to be more comfortable than an expensive mattress that you keep for 10 years that may sag or become uncomfortable. So I'd say trying the $400 can't hurt. (Amazon are also pretty good at refunds it is is awful)
