Book 1 - $7.99 - https://www.amazon.com.au/King-Ashes-Firemane-Saga-Book-eboo…

Dark and powerful forces threaten the world of Garn once more in this second novel in legendary New York Times bestselling author Raymond E. Feist’s epic fantasy series, the Firemane Saga

Hatushaly and his young wife Hava are living a good life, working to reopen the burned-out Inn of the Three Stars in the prosperous trading town of Beran's Hill.

But there is a great deal more to this bucolic scene than meets the eye. Both Hatu and Hava were raised on the secret island of Coaltachin, and though they may appear to be no more than a young couple in love, preparing for the midsummer festival where their friends Declan and Gwen will be wed, they are in fact assassins on a mission, waiting instructions from their masters in the Kingdom of Night.

Moreover, Hatu is the last remaining member of the ruling family of Ithrace – the legendary Firemanes. He dyes his flaming red hair, and has studied to control his dangerous magical powers. But however hard Hatu may be hiding from all those who would seek to use or to destroy him, fate has other plans.

Horrific events are approaching Beran's Hill, bringing death and devastation to the peaceful town as unknown and monstrous forces are unleashed. And nothing will ever be the same again.

I gave up on krondor so your probably right

  • I will be honest, I found the first half of book 1 pretty hard going, now I am almost finished book 2 and am enjoying it. At this price it is worth having a look at.

Magician was my favourite book for a time. Shame he couldn't keep up the quality.

  • I love this author.

Been reading his stuff for years.

Way better storytelling and world than Lord of the Rings.

    • Also recommend "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss.

but not if you want to actually read the end of the series!

I loved his Magician series and have many of his signed books still from the late 1980s and early 1990s. The most annoying thing I found with the Firemane saga is that it has taken so long between books.

If you are looking for other good authors, right now I'm re-reading all the Jim Butcher Dresden series (book 9 right now) because he finally released two new books in the series after a 5 year hiatus. If I time it right, I'll then be able to re-read the Peter F Hamilton Salvation series as book 3 is coming out this month.

If you are more into the normal Fantasy type genre, it is hard to get past Peter V Brett (Demon cycle), L.E Modesitt (Recluse and many others), Brandon Sanderson (he does MANY genres and is an awesome and prolific writer). There are many other great writers around and during these COVID times I hope your are enjoying some new authors.

  • Absolutely loved Magician, best series of all time imho. Agree though, Feist was never quite able to replicate it's awesomeness. I read the sample of this one (/edit, the first book in this series i mean) on google books, didn't grab me. :(

    • I loved his earlier books and skipped a bunch until the first book in this series and really enjoyed it, it feels me of his older stuff. Definitely worth a try!
