ALDI Mobile Expiry Warning

My spouse received the following email for his aldi number, not keen to recharge with the same 365 days plan, will he lose his number if did not recharge with same plan or can he just topup with the PAYG plan to retain number?
And other providers normally will still have the number active for at least 90days after credit expires, is Aldi different?
Anyone with experience and able to advise appreciated.

Your ALDImobile Service Number xxx is due to expire in 2 days and any PAYG credit you have will be forfeited.

What does this mean?
Your ALDImobile SIM card has 365 days validity from activation and each time you recharge, you extend this for a further 365 days. If you don't recharge in a 365 day period, your service will expire, any credit you have will be forfeited and in time, you will lose your number. But it's not all bad news.

What you need to do
Simply recharge with PAYG credit or one of our great plans at aldimobile.com.au or via our app to retain your credit, service and number for 365 days.

    Good Different

You answered your own question in the post…..unless you're looking for some kind of loophole. How much you care about keeping the number? Gamble based on hearsay?

I've phoned the Aldi call centre a couple of times when unable to figure out an issue and both times they went out of their way to help solve the problem.

Might be worth a try. They are working from home so there may be delays.

The text literally tells you what you need to do to retain the number…

    What you need to do
Simply recharge with PAYG credit or one of our great plans at aldimobile.com.au or via our app to retain your credit, service and number for 365 days.

  • PAYG Credit of $5 should do the trick for you, OP. That will give you another 365 days "validity" but you will pay-as-you-go for all calls, text, data.

    • min. recharge of $15 ?

  • I realise this post is old, but I saw this on aldimobile.com.au
So technically, you can leave it for almost six months after expiry, and then reactivate using a new $5 sim card???

    Why has my service expired?

If you've received an SMS or email that your service has expired or is about to, here's what you need to know:

All ALDImobile services have a Pay As You Go 'base plan'. Whenever you recharge with a Mobile Plan, Data Plan, Family Plan, Super Pack or PAYG credit, your base plan expiry date is extended by 365 days.

If you haven't recharged for 365 days, your service will expire. A Data Top Up will not extend your expire date.

Your service expired less than 90 days

You can still receive calls and SMS but can't make calls or send SMS. You can add PAYG, or a plan during this time to reactivate your base plan and service for a further 365 days.

Service expired 90 days and less than 120 days

You can't make or receive calls and SMS at this stage, but you can still add PAYG or a plan to reactivate your base plan and service.

Service expired between 120 days and less than 180 days

You still can't make or receive calls and SMS and if you want to continue to use ALDImobile, you will need to purchase a new SIM card and take the following action, depending on what you'd like to do.

If you want to obtain a new number, you can activate the SIM and request a new number online.
If you want to retain the existing, expired number, call us once you have purchased the SIM card and we'll take care of the reactivation for you. Do not activate the SIM card online.
If your service expired 180 or more days

Due to the lengthy period of time the service has been inactive, the number will have been returned to the original 'owning' Telco and we will not be able to recover it.

  • Hi, Yeah, No, well done.

Look, I was with Aldi for a long time because they're the best (my second best now). It is true that you get 365 days without it expiring and without recharging because I tested it once when I went away. When I came back after around 8 months, my phone was still fine.

I now have an even better mobile provider called GoMo. If you haven't heard of this, I strongly advise doing so now. It offers $15 for 8 gigs over 30 days. This is just one plan, I won't even go any further… Just switch now to Gomo and reach out and touch the world with it.
