3700x down to $269 USD (about $375AUD) any predictions on how low it will go?

Been hunting for a really good discount for a 3700x it seems it has dropped to about $375 AUD at Walmart.

Tried to see how much it would cost with auspost shopmate, but with paypal conversion coming to $400 aud, plus $35.70 shopmat shipping, and another $40 (40% gst), it doesn't really seem worth the effort.

Hanging in there for Prime day 13 - 14th October. Which is also just before the AMD 5800x release (20th I Think?).

So, do you all think we will get a low 3700x price, similar to Walmart soon?

Should I wait for Prime day? Or after 5800x release? Any predictions?

  • $400 aud, plus $35.70 shopmat shipping, and another $40 (40% gst),

That's $475 which is actually more than what I paid for when it was first released last year (I paid the early adopter tax too)

Newegg was also another avenue for cheap US import of components but they have started to charge for shipping as of recently.

Why not just wait for Amazon Prime Day?

definetely worth to wait 2-3 weeks if you are not in a rush, with new ryzen coming up, there is no reason for prices to stay up.

I have a feeling stock of the new CPUs will be limited as well, so not sure if it will impact prices that much for the first few weeks of new release. But should still come down more in the next couple of months.

    • Exactly right, just look at the 3300x. They were released at $195 and now retailing for $240.

i have everything right now but my cpu b550 motherboard, 3600 32gb ram 1tb ssd, gpu.
The only value amd cpu right now is the 3100 at $160, might buy this as a stop gap until we see prices fall.

I refuse to pay over retail for a chip right now that's about to be obselete. Right now the 10400F is the best value chip. (which will be one less sale for amd)

It depends on what price AMD comes in at for Zen 3. There are some rumours that there will be a price hike. With little competition from Intel, that seems increasingly likely. I wouldn't be surprised if the 5800X comes in closer to $650 AUD and the 5900X closer to $900 AUD. Whilst the performance difference seems to be quite substantial, I don't think Ryzen 3000 series will see a huge drop the way Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series did.

In many ways, Ryzen 1000 series was a beta product that had plenty of bugs and kinks (buggy BIOS, fussy RAM support, instability…etc.), and Ryzen 2000 was still far behind Intel so it was always a bit of a budget option. Ryzen 3000 is seriously class leading and should hold its value the same way Intel chips have for the past few years.
