No; Sony haven't sold their phones in Australia for years now. You're going to have to import one or find a grey market seller if you want one.

  • No. But you can get it overseas and shipped over here. I asked a friend to ship an X1ii over a few months ago.

Just hope Sony doesnt overprice this puppy like all their phones

    Compared to what?
The X5ii is the smaller brother of the X1ii and the X1ii has still been cheaper than the Samsungs and Apples.

    • The X5ii is actually the better phone, it has some nifty features its older bro doesnt have, plus it s a one hander at 70mm width

      • The X5ii is actually the better phone, it has some nifty features its older bro doesnt have

What additional features does it have? The screens are different with the X5ii having a FHD+ screen and 120hz refresh rate while the X1ii has the 4k screen. The X1ii has the ToF sensor in its camera system where the X5ii doesn't.

Being a guy who has to carry the phone in my pocket, I do agree that the more compact size is definitely more convenient to carry. I can use the X1ii with one hand (which is the reason i chose it over the Samsungs).

Is there anything else that I'm missing?

        • Power delivery 3, which means you can power it with external source without having to charge the battery

          • @[Deactivated]: The X1ii has it too. It has that HS Power Control function where it bypasses the battery when it's plugged in. Apparently good for gaming so it doesn't ruin the battery. I don't game, so I've never actually tried it.

            • @bobbified: try plugging in a powerbank and see if it bypasses internal battery ???

              • @[Deactivated]: Are you doubting the function exists on the phone? LOL
I can assure you that the function is there! I just have no use for it.

                • @bobbified: If you are not mobile, why would you use the internal battery?

if a battery has around 600-700 recharges, thats like only 2-3 years: thats why you should NOT buy second phones

If you have a powerpack you should use that and leave the internal battery for emergency

                  • @[Deactivated]: The setting to enable or disable the function is actually inside a gaming app called Game Enhancer. You can get the app to divert phone calls and prevent other interruptions while a game is being played.

For the app to be able to do its thing, the games have to be added to a list inside the Game Enhancer app. When a game on the list is being played, it'll trigger the Game Enhancer functions, including the HS PC..

Given the way it works, I can't see a way to have the Power Control function on all the time. But like I said, I haven't played around with the gaming functions too much and I could be wrong.

  • Kogan has Xperia 1 ii at $1474

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/eclipsetechnology-sony-xperia-1…

What price is everyone importing them?

    • Was thinking of getting the 5 ii from my brother in Sweden. 1400aud + shipping but with a free pair of wh 1000xm3 included.

      • +1

If you really want those $300 headphones, then yeah go for it

The 5ii is no slouch, now that Sony has saddled it with a 4000mAh battery

You can presumably turn off the 120hz on the 1080p screen, but you cannot turn off 4K panel and still save battery

Edit: but i am looking at $700-900 only hehe

        • +2

Oh woah $700-900 is incredible, whereabouts are you importing from?

        • You won't get it for that price lol

  • +2

These guys claim to have it - $1,108.00
    https://bestmobilephone.com.au/sony-xperia-5-ii-5g-dual-sim-so-52a-256gb-black-global/

Expansys Australia now shows it as available for preorder - $1,379.99
    https://www.expansys.com.au/sony-xperia-5-ii-5g-dual-sim-unlocked-256gb-black-328283/

Now I just have to figure out whether or not I'll pay that much just to get a phone with Android, a decent IP rating, camera OIS, a headphone jack, expandable storage and a side-mounted thumbprint reader/power button. I probably will, my Xperia X Performance phone got me accustomed to the good life. T_T

    • +3

Not sure if I trust the first lot. Would pay a bit more for a peace of mind.

      • Same boat tbh, kudos for following up with them though

    • Dropped an email to bestmobilephone and they said they are getting stock this weekend of the 5 ii and it will be shipped out Monday….

      • Emailed them about the same thing. I’m really not sure about trusting them though. The price just seem too good.

Alright so here was I dug up.

          • The website has only been online this year. They ran with a different template at the start of 2020 but changed sometimes later. The website uses a wordpress theme. They have a facebook that became active in July.

          • Some of the text in their FAQ in copy paste from buymobile.com.au you can read more about that website here: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2501965

          • Their adress goes to a residental home in Victoria,

From what I know so far I would not recomend anyone buying from here. If they are related to buymobile.com.au buyers experience there is mixed, but some people say it worked fine.

          • @Koopo: Yeah, found the address in Wollert and they have a mobile contact. Only found a few reviews and they seem to be positive, not much on their FB page.

Haven't seen what payment method they accept, but if they support paypal at least there would be some sort of buyer protection through paypal.

This deal looks pretty good from clove:

$1,221.00AUD they clame, apparently launch promo including headphones too.
    https://www.clove.co.uk/collections/smartphones-sony/product…

    • If it was 256GB would have immediately bought, shame only 128GB

  • Just wondering what options would owners in Australia have to repair a broken screen on the Xperia 5 II?
Also, does anyone know how long OS and security support is confirmed to be provided for this model?

Here are some Etoren listings for black, blue, and pink with est ship dates of October 12 at $1,389 + $23 post so $1,412.

I'd like to know when/where the grey version will be available.

    256gb for $1,244 at T-Dimension https://www.t-dimension.com/au/sony-xperia-5-ii-5g-xq-as52-d…

Leaning towards clove for the headphones but still on the fence.

    • +1

is clove shipping the headhones with the phone? Or do you need to claim the headphones separately (which might be an issue if you need to claim in the UK and they won't send to AU)

    • What's T-Dimension like to deal with? I need this phone.

    • Thanks for this, I ordered mine here because they offered the lowest price. Device will be coming from HongKong with 5-7 business days delivery

  • It's now listed on Kogan & Dick Smith for $1385 with free delivery and a 12 month local warranty:
    Kogan - Black
    Dick Smith - Black
    Kogan - Blue
    Dick Smith - Blue
    Kogan - Pink
    Dick Smith - Pink

Kogan list Bec ex tech as the seller. If you go directly to them you can save $100

      AU$1,284.00 Same 1 yea warranty.

      https://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/sonxp5ii256gbblkprt-p-1…

      • Nice find.
They have two different forms of listings.
One with priority delivery ($1,313.95 delivered including $29.95 delivery fee) with the option for postal insurance.
One with 'free insurance' ($1,313.95 delivered including $74.95 delivery fee).

  • This is the best choice for me so far. Good camera, 3.5mm, 120Hz screen. Now, the waiting game to get it a bit lower. 😂

  • I'm a little confused - when I read articles about the phone, I read that pre-orders had opened, but that the actual phones wouldn't be shipped out until early December. How do all these online retailers have the phones in stock? I really want to buy the phone, but am confused.. Have I missed something?

    • +1

Release date is not the same for every country. The December release date is for US. In Hongkong, the phone was released on 9th October where most of the online sellers here are based from.

      • Thanks, that explains a lot.

  • This is near the PRICE of the 1MkII from Kogan

    • How are the olixar cases? I've been looking for the Sony Style Case one, But can't find anyone shipping it yet.

  • +1

Here is the Spigen case for anyone interested:
    https://www.spigen.com/collections/sony-series/products/sony…

  • With so much interest in this phone, it will never go below 1k!!

    • Some would be interested in the 1 III or 5 III likely to be available sometime next year.
Then the 1 II and 5 II may be 2/3 of their current prices.

  • +1

Be careful what you buy. There is more than one version! Some versions DO NOT have 5G, and some have 128GB storage instead of 256GB. If you order direct from Sony, you will get the lesser US version which is 4G and 128GB.
If Australian importers aren't offering the best model, Expansys will probably be the least painful option. You could also order from Asia and use a freight forwarder, but Sony may refuse to deliver to them.
I got Tiptrans, a freight forwarder, to order mine from Sony (NB: not all FFs will do this). Waiting to see if it all comes off. I wanted to get bonus ear phones but in the end I think it wasn't worth it.
Note that each country offers different bonuses (or none), though I think that's all over now unless Sony makes another offer. If you get a big pair of headphones as a bonus, you will have to pay for shipping. Given that wh 1000xm3 will soon be discounted with XM4's coming, it's probably just easier to buy them here and import the phone.

Here is a link to an interesting related Whirlpool thread that includes a discussion on VoLTE and 5G access for the Xperia 1 II / 5 II:
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/348j8kv3

Seems 5G and VoLTE should work on Optus at least with a new SIM.

  • +2

I haven't had any luck yet with 5G - posted some 5G tests in the X1/10 thread as well https://whrl.pl/RgaWk5
But for the record, Clove do bundle the headphones in!
