The old buying a TV from the US thread. Sony X900H $1493 @B&H incl shipping and customs vs $2300 local

I noticed B&H list their Tv's alongside our local Tvs on google shopping search and they are almost half price even after shipping and duties. Import duties are taken care of at their end and they guarantee to cover any costs if it turn out to be higher.

I have done a little research and found the Sony 9000H (which is the same as the 900H here) is dual voltage and Hz. 110-240V 50-60Hz. Although I will triple check this before ordering..

From what I know this negates the need for a transformer, so I just need to chop off the plug and swap for an OZ one here.

The only other issue I have heard about is about picking up local broadcasted TV stations. I dont use my TV for that, just netflix and PC/Gaming use. So no problem.

I dont care about warranty as its so cheap anyway. I dont care about risking shipping damage, I will just cross my fingers. I dont mind that the moneys going to B&H instead of The Good Guys, they need jobs too.

$1400 for a 65inch backlit, HDMI 2.1 TV is a super good deal.
So does anyone have any reasons why this isnt an awesome idea? Mainly technical as in will it work reasons… or customs laws I do not know about.

I knew there was something lol! Thanks guys… disclaimer I have ADD…

  • Is the commercial website available to anyone with an ABN?

    • Search for the sun super account post, to gain access to TGGC.

  • Ah I see you have to do a bit of trickery to get into that site..

  • So basically I was totally off and only save $300 from regular good guys.. I suppose it might be worth checking B&H on black friday seeing as I dont have a commercial account.

    • Just don't.

Wait for a sale in Australia. It'll be under $2000 eventually. Some people have managed to haggle under $2000 already.

    • If you have certain insurance/automobile club membership, you can get in to Good Guys Commercial!

  • Might be worth sussing the warranty with it too. Most brands don't offer international warranties on their products, so if something goes wrong, you may end up with no real recourse.

  • do you know where they haggled under $2k for the 65" x900h?

  • just did the leg work.. TGG instore haggle
