Asus Zenbook 14 or HP Envy 13

Came across these two products on Binglee:

  1. Asus - Zenbook 14 UX425JA - i7/1.3GHZ - 16GB - 512GB SSD - 14" FHD for $1,514 + Delivery

  2. HP Envy 13 Laptop - i7/1.8GHz - 16GB - 512GB SSD - 13.3" FHD for $1,514 + Delivery

My requirement is a portable decent looking machine with enough power to do web development (Webstorm, Docker etc). Both machines have:

  1. Intel i7 10th generation (Sorry no Ryzen)
  2. 16GB Ram
  3. FHD
  4. 512GB SSD
  5. 13-14 inch display

Following are also consideration:

Zenbook has Windows Pro (while Envy has Windows Home, I prefer Pro).

Envy has backlit keyboard.

I know that OZB is generally fan of Dell but I have owned an HP Probook for 9 years now which i still going strong (Had to change battery 1 year ago). That is why I don't feel so bad with HP.

What do you guys recommend? Is there anything I am missing?

You get a better port selection with the Asus Zenbook VS the Envy. For me that is important having that extra Type C/Thunderbolt connection and being able to charge at the same time. But I guess a quality adapter could remedy that.

The Envy uses a i7-10510U vs Asus Zenbook uses a i7-1065G7, the Asus technically should perform slightly better than the Envy in Synthetic benchmarks… i7 comparisons but I haven't tested it myself, either way you should get decent performance from either, though I'd read up on them n compare.

And the screen on the Asus is slightly bigger at 14" which I like and is a good size.

My pick would be the Asus. I use the Ryzen version Asus Zenbook UM425 n it is great.

    Hope this helps!

Just need to be careful here - I got the Zenbook 14 (UX434FLC) a few months ago and while it has the USB-C port, it doesn't support power in/out.

I assumed that USB-C ports provided the same functionality and I was a bit annoyed when I had to find out the hard way! It doesn't say anything about it on the website either. I had to dig into the Asus forums.

The Asus Zenbook UX425 & UM425 haave 2 Type C/Thunderbolt 3 connections which are PD capable. I know I have one.

The UX434FLC or like the UM433 series that your talking about has a single type C connection but unfortunately it is not Thunderbolt 3 nor does it have PD…. Which is a shame and feels like a wasted connection… Still has the barrel plug for charging.

    • Thank you very much for the input. I have decided to go with Zenbook.

    Envy has backlit keyboard.

UX425JA has backlit keyboard as well,

    The specs from ASUS website,

    Keyboard
Edge-to-edge design, full-size backlit, with 1.4mm key travel

    • Oh great, thank you.

    Why no Ryzen?

Also Asus are releasing a new Zenbook 14 in the next 2 weeks so maybe hold off and this one will get cheaper or wait for it and get the new one (UX425EA).

Zenbook all the way, it's much nicer size IMO, the Envy is a touch too small.
