Find Me a Deal for Wireless, Noise Cancelling Heaphones

My trusted Sennheiser PXC 550's battery is dying. Wanted to buy a good headphones, as I use it regularly to listen to Tech audios during my walks- 1000MX4 is what I am considering- open to suggestions.
(Have ordered PXC 550C replacement battery from China, it is going to take till early Jan).
Preferable budget less than $400.

  • Sony WH-1000XM3's are my pick, the latest M4's are nice but for what you are using them for the M3's are a good buy, plus they are $120+ cheaper than the M4's but get a vast majority of the features.

    • Thanks. Yes, I have heard that for Android ecosystem, XM3's are good. The difference is approx. 111AUD, with discounted JB-Hi fi Cards.

  • Great option if you're looking to save a few $$'s: https://www.catch.com.au/product/akg-n700ncm2-wireless-adapt…

Have these and find them very good (possibly available cheaper elsewhere)

Previously had XM3's which I preferred slightly but are double the price. Bought Airpod Pros which I love but wanted some overheads for occasional use also.

  • Microsoft surface 2's

    • Have read a bit about them, but the reviews are not great. Have you used them personally? Would be interested in getting first hand feedback instead of the reviews, which can be sponsored by the company.

      • Yes I have a pair came from the XM3's, they sit much better, sounds on par (although i'd give the xm3 a smidge for the win on that) the simplicity of talking on my phone hanging up and going back to the movie on my laptop without touching anything was fantastic.

yeah the xm4's do that now, but at the time there were not available and I wanted a change.

bonus if you want to call it is the assistant (I've used once).

        • Ok thanks. Appreciate your feedback.
The Sennheiser that I currently have also connects to multiple devices and works well- actually connected to two mobiles and laptop at the same time ( says connected to Device 2 for one phone and laptop).
Of course, didn't have the Google assistant or Alexa built in.
Believe the Bose 700 has assistant built in.

  • I love my xm3s but it is normal for the headband to creak like they do? Like when you expand them on your head…..

    • Hummm.. Not good.

      • Uh well, Return window has closed.

In saying that, thats really the only problem and seems to be a build problem.
        The sound itself is amazing!

  • What about Bose Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones 700?
In the reviews, Sony WH-1000XM4 is beating it in most categories. For e.g., https://www.soundguys.com/bose-noise-cancelling-headphones-7…

  • Till now the Sony WH-1000XM3 seems to be winning.
    Interesting.

  • Sony 1000XM4 available for approx $381.
    Does that change anything? 🙂

  • Update: bought both the Bose NC 700 Limited Edition Triple Midnight as well as the Sony 1000XM4B (from the Good Guys deal). Really blown away by the ability to make phone calls on the Bose- it is remarkable how the person on the other side did not realise that there was work happening in background and a motor was running.
Sony does not match Bose when it comes to cutting out the background noise during phone calls, and people considering using their headphones for calling should buy the Bose 700 for that reason alone.

NC for Bose NC 700 and Sony 1000XM4B is about equal. Bose has more levels of NC, but Sony has very good NC, including empowering the user with options, including adaptive control based on location or activity. (remembering where you are or sensing what activity is happening automatically, and adjusting the NC)

Sound Quality, probably the Sony is better. Uses Sony's own LDAC lossless and you can adjust to SBC, AAC etc if having issues in connectivity.
Also, can configure to turn off when you are not wearing the HP to conserve energy.
Battery life for Sony is better too, and faster charging.

But the quality of case and charging cable for Bose wins (Sony cable is too short to be usable).
Sony comes with the aeroplane adapter as well ( the Sennheiser adapter quality is way better than the Sony). For Bose, adapter is extra cost.
To be honest, Sennheiser was lacking in the ANC and voice calls ( everyone could hear everything in the background). Bose QC 35ii has the same issue- could hear the BG noise when I was on a call with another person who uses the same- it was extremely noisy.
