It is because tech is cool. Another reason is the hypeness of Team Green.
Because upgrading can cost less that replacing.
Why not?
There is a recent trend for the oversupply of memory in RAM and SSDs. NAND flash is a little cheaper due to lack of demand (blamed mostly on lack of phone sales) compared to forecast so the prices are a little depressed and trending a bit lower than average.
