Bread Large Enough for Sandwich Toastie Makers

By cheese toastie sandwich thing I mean the sealed triangle ones. I use the Kmart deep dish sandwich maker.

Happy enough with that for just $15.

What I'm constantly not happy with is finding the bread slices are too small, or not square enough to become a sealed edge so turns into a messy leak out the front or back of the appliance.
So far tried Aldi and Coles breads but they are hit and miss for size. I have Lawsons around for other reasons but I'm not gonna burn them just for toasties.

What brands of bread do people use that have a large enough size?

No problems with Coles High Top White Bread.

    • Does this taste like plain white bread or does it taste like say Helga's? I've found ones that put "traditional" in the name are usually the ones with that different taste (not a fan…)

Just asking, cos it's cheaper than Tip Top lol

      • Literally plain white bread with flour topping. Crisps up nicely, give it a go. Helga does taste different.

  • what stuffing do you use oP?

Just slices from a cheese block. Maybe all up about 1.5cm high?
But it's more the fact the bread doesn't even fully cover the plate to begin with.

      • as lot of people suggested tip tops got good large size breads op

I use the Woolworths 800g "baked in store" loaf, sliced for sandwiches (sliced for toast are too thick). Works a treat.

    • hmm good idea. I never thought to look at the bakery section ones.
Next time I'll pick up a tip-top and size it up lol.

  • The problem is the sandwich toaster as it cuts it in half. Buy one that doesn't cut it in half and you won't have the problem.

  • We always use Tip Top 'The One' in our house and it's too big for our toastie/jaffle maker like this…a decent amount sticks out the sides and doesn't even get toasted. You then need the bigger toastie maker to suit the larger bread slices. I prefer the ones that don't crimp it at all if you're not putting anything overly wet in it.
