  • Someone tell me why I need an amazon amp?

    • keen to know too….. what is this nonsense about

    • Looks like a standard Stereo receiver, with Amazon integration. The Sub out is a decent plus on it though. $309 is a pretty good price for the feature set.

The reviews are terrible though. So it's basically terrible value for $309.

Those reviews are based on USD price point. Where they have a lot of competition around there. Not quite the same in Australia unfortunately. For $300 it's not bad value compared to the other options we have here at that price point. Mostly just the low end Topping and SMSL stuff. Everything that gets compared to in most of the reviews i've seen are products sitting at $6-800 here, but are price comparable in the US.

          • @ONEMariachi: Really. Every review I've seen says that it's terrible. This one compares it to a $30 amp. There are loads of cheap options on Amazon and eBay.

            • @C0mbat: Fair mate, you're welcome to believe as you will. I'm quite skeptical on that review though and the many others I've read. They all seem to have hard ons for hating Amazon from the way they are written, and very few have any actual evidence to back up their subjective claims (which is a huge no no in the audio world), or again the ones that do are comparing them to amps that cost closer to $1000 than the $300 mark here. Even that linked review, they barely seem to know what they are talking about when it comes to audio- all making purely subjective statements without any actual statistics or value based judgement- only using buzzwords that mean nothing without proper value placed on them and not even showing his full chain and what equipment other than av switcher, and Yamaha speakers. For all we know the problem could stem from the other equipment. Impossible to tell or make an accurate judgement on that. His $30 amp, doesn't even get a mention as to what it is. A little suspect to me. How do I know it's not some 40 year old amp he got for $30 but could easily be an excellent amp worth $1000+. No way to know.

Most of the cheap ones on there (ie the topping and SMSL i mentioned) are also missing several of the features this has. ie Sub out, and proper network connectivity, beyond bluetooth. I'd be intrigued to see something with those features at this price point. Definitely open to being wrong here.
