2004 WRX Help ADVICE

Looking at a few cars but seen a 2004 WRX hatch which looks nice and has those spoilers on the rear.

Can anybody tell me from their own experiences what are they like; good or bad?

It's a manual. 5 Dr hatch but the Kms are high but a new clutch?

Thank you.

I've own an old liberty RS TURBO but it needs a lot of work; should I put the $$$ into that or invest in a newer WRX like the 2004???

Thanks

  • I owned one for 15 years. They're awesome but really need to see in person if its a nugget or not. All dependant how well it was taken care of or abused. Mine worked beautifully and no issues apart from preventative maintenance. Made close to 200kw atws with bolt ones. That said it burned stock clutches due to increase in power. I took great care of mine however, the others I saw on the market when I sold were beaters.

Question is, now bad is your RS, how many clicks on the 2004 and whats your budget here.

  • Well the RS has been off the road a while it needs a bunch of bushes and rubbers and be clutch and obviously all the oils and filters looking at maybe $4000 to get it up to RWC standard but it was a fun car when it was running last.

The WRX is at 299km but they say it has history and books

  • Hard to saw, that mileage will be lot more preventive maintenance if you decide to take it. So things like radiators, CVs, wheel bearing, bushings, brakes, tyres etc….

can PM me the ad so can tell you my thoughts

    300km is a lot, considered a GR 08-13 Hatch?

  • ej205 lasts for high kms if not thrashed

  • Yeah high km doesn't bother me being it's a country car so long as they have proof of service history

  • I just want first hand feedback on the car newer WRX Vs my old ej20 td05h RS.

  • I reckon it's worthwhile pursuing at the right price. Just make sure it drivetrain is good and assume the rest needs to be replaced.

    • They are asking 5500 looks good not perfect obviously but need to see in person

      • +1

At 300,000km you are no longer looking for what has not happened to the car, you're looking to see what's been replaced.

Suspensions and bushes, heck the door seals and seats are probably due too.

  • Post 2003 EJ205 has AVCS (eg VVTI) helps with lower down power makes it more driveable. I drove pre 2002 EJs and they lacked bottom end power.

Service history doesn't mean it doesn't have existing issues, have a look but worth investigating. These are good cars, loved mine.

    • Yes I understand to have a good look at it just wanted real world feedback if it's a good car or not.

  • Unless you really need a wagon, get the sedan. The slab sides look crap. Just like the 08 onwards.

Apart ftom that, never had an issue and have had 8 WRX/STI's in all guises of performance mods.

    • What's wrong with hatch/wagon is it really much different in weight

      • It doesn't have the flared guards of the sedan.
