What VPN in 2020

Who to use in the current year? With PIA at the moment purely because I used them years ago when they were legit and left it to auto renew. Now the socks5 proxy isn't working, and haven't been able to vpn Netflix for years.

Who doesn't store info and isn't dodgy?
Works with Netflix/Amazon prime/etc?

Pretty much only after those things, don't really care too much about price if it actually works and I don't have to spend ages trying to figure out why my Linux isos are stuck at "connecting to peers".

  • Surfshark is decent

I was on PIA and switched to Nord with one of their 90% or so cashback deals.
Had no problems using it on linux, macOS, windows and android on their software (which is fast and simple) and also openvpn.
As for speed, currently getting 88/18 no vpn and 84/16 with vpn, and never had to turn it of because of speed.
They say they keep no logs, and apparently had an independent audit to confirm it.
    Dunno about netflix etc though.

  • I only use the VPN for Netflix on the FireTV. Have used ExpressVPN which is decent but gets only about 25mbps (on an NBN 100 connection) and Nord is horrible at 5-7mbps. Speeds measured on FireTV using the Analiti app. Wonder if I haven't configured it properly.

  • Mullvad

  • Switched from Torguard to Windscribe. Seems to be fairly transparent, simple to use, supports Netflix (Winflix), and has quite good value for the pound (currently on a $2 per month plan unlimited - but only 1 'premium' location - the free ones work well too.)

    • What speeds to you get for Netflix? Can you watch 4K streams?

      • Not sure about 4K. Last time I tried it it ran well sometimes, other times seem to have trouble getting out of 480p. Apparently you can use any US server now which in theory should give you good speeds but haven't had the need to try it out.
