5m HDMI Cable (V1.4) $8.50 @ Kmart

210

5m HDMI V1.4 cable for $8.50 at Kmart.

This seems to be the cheapest 5m HDMI cable around. Looks to be long-running.

Slightly cheaper than the Officeworks Keji 5m cable for $8.88

  • This seems to be better deal if you don't need 5m

i believe officeoworks and kogan are 2.0 vs the 1.4 of kmart

if you're not running uhd it doesnt matter

  • Is this a discounted price? Think i paid the same amount earlier this year.

  • Can get 5m v1.4 in round or flat for $7 from MSY if you have one near to you. Bought a 10m for $11 there this week.
Seem to be the cheapest around - even cheaper than eBay, and realistically that's all you need for 1080p.
For 4K and/or HDR you would want something with the newer HDMI spec
Note signal degradation starts to become an issue at 1080p at ~10m/>10m, and sooner for 4K and/or HDR. I imagine 5m is fine for that but worth checking if that is your use case.

There is no such thing as a 1.4 HDMI cable, version numbers like that are reserved for input devices and TV's, current HDMI version for 4k transmission is High Speed, newer version for 8k is Ultra High Speed. If 10m+ is required for 4k the HDMI Fibre Optic cables are the go. Some well known brands are Ruipro, KORDZ and Monoprice.

    • was hoping someone would mention this, why does almost every company not follow these simple regulations??

I bought a 4K (UHD) monitor and plugged it in yesterday. It took me 3 HDMI cables before I found one that actually gave me a stable picture. One gave me nothing, another one dropped the signal once every minute or so. I found it very frustrating that HDMI cables aren't clearly marked in any obvious way about what they can and can't do, and all the smug articles explaining that you don't need a new HDMI cable for 4K because "they all just work" was beyond frustrating. Don't even get me started on the opaqueness of USB-C voltage levels and lack of clear specs, "plug and pray" seems to be where industry standards are heading.

  • how does this compare to monster hdmi cables?

    • Monsters not included.

  • Don't think they have 10m+ HDMI Fibre cables, but 10m HDMI Copper Cables. It's rare to find a HDMI copper cable 10m or more that will carry all that 4k video data. Whatever the HDMI cable is, must be High Speed capable of 4k@60Hz.

  • I've bought the Kmart 10m cable to play games from PC to the TV but there's noticable input lag. Not sure why, I've played with some of the TV and computer settings but couldn't find anything that would cause input lag? 1080p@60Hz. 870Ti graphics card… Anyone have this issue or any clue? Happy to spend more if there's a good solution.

    • I was going to get a 5m cable for that purpose, a cable to do it properly would be a lot more than 10$ even for 1080p. Easier just to move my PC it's near the telly anyway

      • I thought that too but this site and other articles online make it seem like the length of the cable is not a concern? I'm not sure. Was hoping someone could shed some light haha

        • Hm for $8.50 it could be worth giving it a go, can always return it. Will test first with a shorter cable.
Got an old Bravia full HD (KDL-65W850C) that should be good for gaming I think.
          Cheers,

  • Ideal upgrade for my apple TV for hotels.

  • don't buy hdmi cables that don't meet at least 2.00 on packaging -waste of money

  • mate you wanna pay that much look a the 8k ones at amazon - 8K HDMI 2.1 Cable 6.6ft/2M,Reayou HDR 8K
