Anyone Changing from American Express Velocity Platinum Credit Card - Can't Use Free Flight

I am looking to change the Credit Card as i can't see much happening for me to use the Free Flight here in WA, and don't think would be able to sell it in the current climate, It is due to expire in Feb, I can get a prorata refund on the fees for the card ( about $150 i think refund ) and they can swap to a different card.

Has anyone changed from the Amex Velocity Platinum card to a different Amex Card?

They have given the following options to 'downgrade to'

Qantas discovery card, Essential card, Qantas premium card, Platinum edge card

Can't see much travel for myself over the next couple of years.

    Same position, moving to essential card then reconsider next year

    Same situation. May just book a flight to Melbourne around July for a footy trip and cancel the card a week later. If I cant go then Im fine to cop an L.
    Amex deferred the fee for 6 months in march so I only had to pay one annual fee for 2019-2020.

    I dont see the point in credit cards if the points/flights cannot be used. Will sign up to another card in 2022+

    Or move to velocity escape if you continue to see value in velocity points

      You only earn 0.75 points/dollar though. Plus going by the OP's options, it doesn't look like it's on sale

      Right the velocity card is not available probably since virgin went into adminstration.

      So I have changed my amex from qantas to essential to velocity in the past. Couple of catches:

      • I lost all my essential points when I changed out

      • They do another credit check

      So it was me, I would "downgrade" to Qantas discovery.

    I'll most likely downgrade to the Essential until things clear up.

    Yeh looking at the essential card, is the transfer rate to airlines ( virgin/singapore ) the same rate ( 1 to 1)
    assume they don't have to so a credit check as it is a downgrade ( Will have to ask them before doing )

    Just cancelled my ANZ Travel Rewards after receiving the letter that a complimentary free flight and 2x lounge passes are no longer available

    Not sure what to switch too but a high rewards card might be a better option
