Couldn’t get pass the aeroplane stage at the start and gave up! I’m a Terrible gamer lol
just use easy mode and equip auto-shooting and auto-fighting chips, then enjoy the story
It's badly designed because it has no checkpoints. It's really the hardest part of the whole game.
That's not bad design, it's actually very deliberate to set the player up for the game ahead.
The game doesn't hold your hand at the start like most games it drops you right in the action, with good reason given the plot of the game (which I won't go into further detail about).
It starts off in this manner to force you to learn the mechanics from the get-go, to understand how the game works and to actively make you want to get better. If you can just keep inching your way forward checkpoint to checkpoint by just getting by, you're not actually learning the mechanics, you're just doing enough to get by.
Sure hundreds of games have a gradual difficultly design and work fine, but this game isn't that, deliberately so.
It wants you to get good early so that you can be prepared for anything the game throws at you.The first level of the game is a tutorial in the same way that throwing someone in the deep end of a pool is a swimming lesson.
It's not just you - it happens to a lot of people. I almost gave up after getting to the final boss a few times. As HD9990 said, don't be afraid to drop it to easy and equip some of the "auto chips". Once you understand that you are invincible during dodging animation and how to consume health quickly (if not using auto heal chip), the whole level becomes a piece of cake. I went on the complete all the endings in the game (all 26 plus the DLC one) and it's become one of my favourite games.
Probably sounds like a dumb question - but why is it titled "Game of the YoRHa Edition", instead of "Game of the Year" like most other games?
Word play.
Don't get it
YoRHa gonna have to play the game and find out :)
The "YoRHa" are an elite military force in the game. If I tell you any more than that it would be spoiling the story.
For the glory of mankind!
Such a great game and deal.
Thanks OP
Been playing the nier themed raid in ffxiv now I can see what I am fighting for lol.Just a heads up for any potential players, there's so much more to the game's story after your first playthrough/route
each to their own but this game didnt work out for me. found it rather boring. combat felt far too simplistic to make it engaging and story was very average. stopped playing it during the second playthrough with 9S. Got sick of the hacking mini games too. difficulty levels were very imbalanced too. on normal it was way too easy but if you put it on hard, you pretty much die after getting hit twice.
Interesting. You stopped at 9s playthrough and felt the story was very average when you were not even halfway through the story lol
good story keeps you engaged. not that hard to grasp is it? this didn't and having to play the same story again through 9S' perspective didnt really add anything other than boredom. you make it sound like getting to the second playthrough take 1-2 hours.
gotta love the fanbois.
I didn't say these from a fanboy perspective. but there is actually 2a's story after 9s' and it is a continuing story after 2b and 9s' final battle. I wouldn't say a word if you finished everything and still rated it average.
@kenyuan: Well that's your opinion. I get very little time to play games so I feel like the hours I have already pumped into playing this game to get to where I am now is more than enough for me to decide this game isn't for me. I am pretty sure my gameplay time was 10 hours or so at least so it's not like I played it for 1-2 hours and decided it's crap.
I'm not going to neg you as I do understand what you are saying. It is a bit of a hack-n-slash on normal, but hard is where you really need to be good at dodging and customising your chips as well as your Pod to be successful. However, you haven't really experienced the story. You've only gotten up to part 2 of the prelude.
well i keep hearing that from people who rave about this game but overall mechanics of the game just isn't that great to keep me interested.
For example, customising the chips wasn't interesting at all. picking up new chips or items didn't excite me and soon i couldn't even be bothered to go through and check them out after picking them up.
the only good thing I can say about the game is the soundtrack.
Oh and I'm not saying hard was unplayable. I could defnitely have played it through on hard, but because I wasn't enjoying the game, I didn't feel the need to play it on hard and potentially die and have to replay the same part.
There's very much a sub-game in combining chips and min-maxing your stats. Once you start loading up on a bunch of +6 chips and get used to the different combos of the weapons as well as the upgrades to your Pod, the combat really starts to become over the top fun. There's a lot of these subsystems that aren't really spelled out in the game and are very easy to miss. I can totally understand how this game can appear "meh" if you don't complete the 5 main endings and become skilled with the upgrade and weapon systems. Towards the end I was smashing through masses of enemies, but even then, I was nowhere near good enough to do some of the ultra difficult optional challenges.
I have just finished the second playthrough with 9S and it was a bit of a slog. I didn't really enjoy it because it was essentially a repeat of the first playthrough, just from a different perspective. I haven't started the third playthrough yet but I heard that's when the story really opened up so I'm looking forward to that!
Ending A and B are a bit like that. Endings C to E are completely different and shorter.

Yess, thanks for this
