[NSW] Franklins No Frills Dishwashing Liquid 1L - 3 for $2 @ Kogarah Shopping Paradise

160

Do YOU want your kitchen to look like it hasn't been touched since 1995? Well, this is your ticket to success.

3 litres of Franklins No Frills Dishwashing Liquid for $2 at this eclectic bargain shop opposite Kogarah Railway Station (74 Railway Parade).

Not only does it function as a neat collectible of a long gone shop, it still probably would clean dishes just as well as it did when it was manufactured just prior to the iPod Nano being launched.

Thanks to Ken Chapman of Old Shops Australia on Facebook for the heads up…

  • Whoa.

  • Ahh Franklins… they used to have this chocolate drinking powder that absolutely was hands down the best ever. Better than milo, nesquick and cadbury.

What I would do to get another jar of that 😭😭

  • Franklins still exists?

      Wish it did.

Wow where did they find this. Next episode of storage wars, finds pallet of Franklin's dishwashing liquid. Lol

  • Is now IGA

  • I just wanna go back, like it's 1999

I ran a search on Wiki, and found out:

"The last Franklins was at Westfield Miranda shopping centre; it closed in April 2015."

Guess it wasn't that long ago 😁

Franklins and grocery shopping was a big part of my 90's childhood. Our pantry was stocked up with the utalitarian "No frills" branded products with their plain black and white labels. They really took the savings to the extreme by not even paying for a graphics designer, logos, or colourful packaging. IGA's "Black and Gold" brand is probably the closest thing to generic branding you can find in 2020.

    • Franklins and grocery shopping was a big part of my 90's childhood.

      Mine too.

    • If you look closely at the cardboard boxes below in the photo they actually are Black & Gold branded and one of them has the No Frills sticker stuck over it! So probably the same manufacturer.

    • My favourite thing about franklins was that they were a 9-5 kind of store, that was closed on sundays. Every small business was able to flourish. If you needed something after hours you would go to the Local milk bar. There was a quality butcher, quality fruit and veg shop, fish monger, Smoke shop, flower shop, chocolate shop Etc in every centre - franklins has none of these. Woolworths Came along and put it all in greed style. Went from being cheeper than elsewhere to dearer than elsewhere. We now pay for convenience and have lower quality and dearer prices. Woolworths will be overtaken by something bigger one day.

      • I think you'll find that food prices are actually considerably lower, but I think farmers and food manufacturers have been absolutely squeezed silly as a result.

The variety on the shelves has also taken a massive hit. Woolworths and Coles struck off thousands of product lines from the shelves to try and compete with Aldi, so the product mix is more homogenous these days. IGA is a breath of fresh air when you can find a good one, but you'll pay for it.

When I was in Canada earlier this year before COVID hit, the thing that struck me was that despite having far more grocery chains than Australia and good variety on the shelves, the prices were dreadfully high across the board. I suspect that's probably because Aldi didn't come along over there. There are a few 'budget' grocery chains, but I still found them to be dreadfully expensive.
