Karuza Gaming Chair - Anyone had one of these before?

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone could comment on these gaming chairs from Karuza?
This is the website: http://karuzagear.com

I'm looking for something comfortable and that will hopefully last.
Feel free to bring up suggestions if you have any!

Thanks!

All of these gaming chairs are fairly average - these bucket seats are great in cars where there’s significant lateral force when you’re going fast around a corner, but provides no practicality beyond that. Plus the (often) cheap vinyl lacks breathability which doesn’t help for longer periods of sitting. Each of these chairs put on those lumbar and cervical support pillows, but most chairs lack proper adjustability as positioning these pillows can be quite tricky.

Better off spending a similar amount at IKEA on their Markus or Jarvfjallet, or even a second hand Herman Miller.

    • I thought those pillows would help me fit better into the chair.
I'm currently using an office chair but it's massive compared to me (I'm pretty small) so it becomes uncomfortable after a while.

I'll have a look into the ones you suggested though thanks!
Hopefully I get to try them before purchase when the lockdown in Melbourne ends!

      • If you’re small the two suggested might not suit, but if you sign up for the free IKEA Family membership you should be able to return them (please read terms before committing).

Here is a review of the chairs suggested above.

I would also choose a Herman Miller or other ergonomic office chair over a gaming chair. The more adjustable it is, the more comfortable it should be.

      • The pillows are definitely intended to help with your posture, but gaming chairs typically (and this seems to be no exception) secure these with straps. They can move around a lot and not sit in the right positions, sometimes to the extent that you might just give up and take them off (or have them sit in poor positions - even worse!)

Master Bate mentioned, below, that you should be mindful of your size when picking these chairs (I’m 6ft and no issues fwiw, so didn’t consider this).

Tonnes of people swear by higher end brands like Herman Miller and SteelCase. You’ll often find Herman Miller “Mirra” models which is ex-office furniture, often refurbished. Whilst they’re not a high back chair like the IKEA ones I linked, they’re still very comfortable - I just prefer to have a headrest or at least a high back so it gives me some feedback for when I’m slouching.

Also, consider your primary use case. If you’ll be sitting up close to a desk (e.g keyboard and mouse) then removable or adjustable arms will be a minimum requirement, if not no arms at all - arms often prevent you from getting close enough for a good sitting position. If you’re sitting back, such as with a controller, or to just watch TV, then arms are no hindrance (and can even help with shoulder posture).

  • Plastic base puts me off. I've seen chairs snap a leg too many times - even with feather weight people - to get anything except metal base.
One of the places I used to work banned plastic bases because an OH&S review highlighted them as a risk.

  • You need to spend a lot more to get lasting value. Usually, not always, ergonomic office chairs are longer lasting and more comfortable.

It's a much higher outlay but it works out better over 5 years or longer say (eg 1 x $500 chair vs 3 x $200 chairs hypothetically). Usually premium office furniture is guaranteed for a decade or longer.

Currently using one. If you sit on the edge of your seat casually, it likes to tip over. Plastic 'rims' on the wheels like to pop off - more of an aesthetic thing, not a real issue. Had mine for a few years now, the PU leather has held up fine. Gets the job done for the money. Would I recommend it? Not necessarily, but it works fine and I've had no real issues. Love the reclining function though. Lumbar support is just a pillow and can be hit or miss. As long as you don't sit in it for too long you'll be fine. Decent for the money, can't compare it to something more premium ie. SecretLabs since I haven't had one.

    • Which model do you have? and what's your height if you don't mind me asking?
Main reason i'm looking for a new chair is because I'm currenly using an office chair but it's way too big for me (i'm pretty small) and it becomes uncomfortable after a while.
Also thanks a lot for this comment, pretty helpful to know that the PU is good quality.
I'm considering SecretLabs too but for double the price, I was looking for information about whether this one would be good enough.
I could use that extra cash for a good headset.

Hey mate no worries, fair questions. I have the Karuza SZ-0026, I'm about ~ 167cm and 70-75kg somewhere - not sure after COVID haha.
If you're not in a hurry, try go in store and sit on one and see if you like it, I know the Sunshine store usually has some you can try.

Good luck on the chair hunt!
