Spent 2 hours doing research online and checked childcarseats.com.au but found it very confusing. Many high rating ones are no longer available. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

No. It is when their shoulders are high enough that the seatbelt can be used normally. Around age 7

Probably not, I know we got one of those small booster seats for junior around that age, lifts them up high enough for the seat belt to be in the right spot.
Type G seats that will remain harnessed up to the maximum allowable shoulder height, 51cm, instead of using the car seatbelt.

Any new one. They are cheap to expensive plastic that deteriorate with heat. They aren't crash cells. They often will increase the severity of the injuries as they add slack, BUT they save lives because the bottom strap stops a child from slipping out of their seat belt.
Buy the cheapest new car seat that works for your car or if this is irrational for you, the most expensive or bulky one. That cost or bulk is there to make you feel like you are doing something.
We ended up with this, have to see in person when looking at seat with your child. Some just were uncomfortable

Looks like something a 4-8 year old will outgrow very quickly.
Buy a car with backseat and curtain airbags. A car seat may only protect your 4-8 year old from whiplash and give me a spongey cushion to sit on.

We found safe n sound to be safe and high quality - just make sure they don’t outgrow the lines on the seat - it’s not safe if they’re too big for the seat - usage of car seats in based on size not age
