the chilli variant ain't that spicy btw

    • +3

Yeh. It’s basically original or original.

      • I can tell a distinct difference. The chilli are sweeter and less salty tasting with chilli undertones however I doubt anyone would call them spicy.

      • Original or "warm"?

  • +3

Costco have big package pork crackle taste good. I prefer costco one

    • That one is airfried too so much lower in cal.

    • The Local Legends one? I tried it and found it bland compared to other brands. Not sure if I got a dud bag but I wouldn't buy it again.

      • I think salted only no other flavour added which is good my opinion.

        • Ahh, so missing the magic MSG.

    • I don’t like the Costco one as they are too dry. A few bites and my throat felt so dehydrated.

    Ingredients:

Pork Rind, Vegetable Oil, Salt, Hydrolysed Soy Protein, Tapioca Starch, Yeast Extract, Flavour Enhancer (621), Anticaking Agent (504, 551, 341), Food Acid (262), Colour (150c - better known as Ammonia caramel), Herbs And Spices, Vegetable Powder, Flavour. Yum.

Doesn't contain any Dihydrogen monoxide, looks good to me

      • Plot twist - the pigs were given a constant supply of dihydrogen monoxide…

      • Or Bisphenol-A. Gets a thumbs up from me

      • These guys know their stuff. I believe they have a special process that removes all of the Dihydrogen Monoxide during the production process.

    • They are yum. Your sole conclusion is indeed correct.

    • didn't even know they had msg in them …ah well back to eating them

    • +1

And it's not hard to make your own, without all that crap included.

  • Not that tasty imo

  • "This popular keto snack is back at Woolworths" …….when did it leave i have been buying them from woolworths every week

  • Anyone tried the microwave pork crackle? Like the microwave popcorn…

    • +1

Yeah, it's not great. Way too salty. And let it air dry for a minute or two after microwaving it or it'll be spongy. But not too long because it becomes a little too hard

      • Yeah it's massively salty but I find the pieces are typically more puffed than the packaged ones that often have very hard pieces.

    • I did. Bought two packets, the first one was so bad I didn’t bother with the second one. Waaaaaaay too salty and some came out burned while some were unpopped.

      It’s also more expensive.

    • +1

I had some just last night for the first time. It tasted nice but didn't easily break down and got all gluinky and stuck between my teeth. Maybe that's what Nimbim meant by saying 'spongy', though for me consistency wise it was fine, it just gets clogged in your teeth like your eating heaps of cheese crackers.

    • bought the same day as ready to eat "legend something" from Costco. They taste the same to me but the microwave version is more expensive so can't see any reason to buy it the second time.

  • A bag of these and a norco triple shot is my guilty pleasure on my drive home from work.

Nobby's pork krackles are infinitely better

  • -3

This doesn't sound very nice to eat…

  • -5

You should try the pork sword. Chicks love it

  • -1

Nice. Last time they had this deal I bought 20 packs. Will need to get more this time. Love this as a healthy snack

    • +3

They're healthy if you make them yourself using lard. These are full of crap.

  • At this price it's actually decent. Otherwise, pork skin is very cheap if you wanna DIY (~$3/kg).

  • +1

Should be called Pork Crack, because I am ADDICTED!

keto diet-loose weight, but get a heart attack instead.

    • +5

I'm not sure what you actually know about the keto diet but since going keto on Jan 4th I've lost 36kg (111kg - 75kg] [waist 38" - 31" slim]. Doc says my malignant hypertension has resolved. My once dicky knees feel 20 years younger and I've got more energy than I know what to do with. It's not only safe, it's a life changing transformation if you can stick with it.

      • -2

it's all good until you get clogged arteries and fatty liver and other complications.

        • +1

No, you're right, everyone around is a picture of health, good point.

        • Keto diet (or low carb in general) reverses fatty liver, because excess carbs (which is the norm of modern diets) are the main contributor to the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in the first place. Educate yourself before spreading dangerous mistruths.

          • @findingbargains: …but keto promotes high fat which leads to heart disease. keto is not the solution.

            • @9hundred: tsk, tsk, tsk… you are mistaken, but it is not surprising after decades of population brainwashing by authorities on unproven "harmfulness" of fat intake. Read about Dr Dominic D'Agostino and Dr Angela Poff's research on ketones.

These CANNOT be healthy with these types of additives in them:

Vegetable Oil (not advised on Keto at all)
Salt (only healthy when natural sea salt or Himalayan salt, which you can guarantee that this is not)
Hydrolysed Soy Protein (nothing hydrolysed is healthy)
Flavour Enhancer (621) (while delicious, MSG causes problems for many people, myself included)
    Anticaking Agent (504, 551, 341)

I left out ones I'm not sure about, but I highly doubt they're healthy either. They're in the product for reasons other than health/nutrition. I'm starting to really appreciate the saying "if man made it, don't eat it" (obviously not meant to include home-cooked stuff).

Plain pork crackle is a popular HEALTHY Keto snack when they're nothing but pork rind and natural salt, not with all that other rubbish.

    • Vegetable Oil has no carbs and is perfect for keto.

Salt is sodium with negligible amount of other metals - sea salt, Himalayan salt, homebrand salt from Woolies - it won't make a difference.

"Nothing hyrdolysed is healthy" is patently false.

There is no evidence that MSG is unsafe.

And finally, you never even commented on what's wrong with Anticaking Agents.

      You're a bro scientist.

Vegetable oil is awesome if you're into massive inflammation. It's terrible for people.

        • It has nothing to do with keto. Vegetable oil contains no carbs and therefore its macros fulfil the criteria defined for something to be "keto".

The OP never even claimed that these are healthy or not. He/she just said they were keto and he/she is correct.

          • +1

@TruthNuke: Why are you replying to me about this? I never mentioned low-carb in the post. Maybe you should type more slowly, or something, and think more about what you're typing and to whom.

            • -2

@mickeyjuiceman: You realise you replied to my post, right?
And you replied to it by talking about inflammation even though my post had nothing to with that, right?
Do you always meltdown like this?

          • +2

@TruthNuke: I suggest that you listen to some Keto podcasts/videos from people who actually know what they're talking about. Nobody who is truly following a Keto lifestyle will say that vegetable oils are healthy for you.

Keto is NOT just about fulfilling macro criteria. What you fill them with is just as important, it's about eating healthy food, not just any old crap that happens to fulfil a macro count. For example, Keto is about high fat, but HEALTHY fats, not just any fats, see the difference. And as @mickeyjuiceman said vegetable oils create a great deal of inflammation in the body, and are therefore NOT healthy, unlike coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil etc which are healthy..

I didn't say that the OP said they were healthy, I said they're not healthy and I stand by that. You call ME a bro scientist (whatever that is), I call you the KETTLE. I'm not giving you my half-baked opinions, I'm telling you what the research says. Have you even bothered to look at any? I doubt it based on your comments.

I don't care about any negs I get, I just care about the truth.

            • -2

@yannduran: I never denied that vegetable oils aren't healthy for you.
You can consume these without inhibiting the inducement of ketogenesis. It's as simple as that.
Of course they're not healthy. They're just a salty snack/treat. Nobody is suggesting that these should serve as a meal replacement or one should begin a 40-day pork crackle only challenge. If I was doing keto, I'd happily snack on these occasionally with the knowledge that I'd remain in ketogenesis and that the evil chemicals in them wouldn't kill me because I'm eating them in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

It's funny that YOU of all people should call me a bro scientist considering you've spouted such gems as "nothing hydrolysed is healthy" and "only healthy when natural sea salt or Himalayan salt" and "if man made it, don't eat it" and not to mention your crusade against MSG. Nothing you've said is founded in scientific literature. You should refrain from distributing nutritional advice on the internet because somebody with the same gullibility as yourself might fall for it.

  • +1

    Contains MSG (flavour enhancer 621)

    • +1

      msg won't kill you, lmao.
