TV for PS5

I have had my TV for 8 years now, it was a high-end HD 55" for its time, I am going to use the next gen console as an excuse to upgrade.

What would be the recommendations? The use would be the PS5, live sports and the occasional movie on Netflix. I don't have a degree in TV-ology and all the specs flying around are overwhelming but based on the little I know I want a 4k, 75". I read that the PS5 is optimised for 120Hz refresh rate.

I have a decent sound system so I don't really care about the quality of the speakers, and as for the smart TV functions, as I have an AppleTV 4k I imagine I would still mainly use that (and the PS5) for media.

I know you can pay pretty much anything for a TV, I don't want to pay for icing on the cake I don't need, but I don't want to have to replace the TV in less than 5 years too.

Thanks!

    LG c9 or cx

both will take full advantage of the ps5 120hz and series x 120hz

    • Cheers.

$8495.00 best price for the CX that size, I don't think the boss at home will approve!

      • +1

Sony X900 series if you don't want to shell out for an LG CX. Nothing else matters.

If it's too expensive, I'd go the 65" LG oled over any other 75" tv. I have the 65" C9. In my opinion the cx/c9 are by far the best gaming tvs on the market.

Edit: Actually, if you watch a lot of sport, burn in might be a risk from the scoreboard/channel logos. May be a reason not to go oled.

Considering OP's mixed use of sports, PS5, occasional movie I doubt burn in would be an issue. It would only be an issue if OP was watching the same sport from the same broadcaster all the time. Link to test

Our stance remains the same, we don't expect most people who watch varied content without static areas to experience burn-in issues with an OLED TV.

Wait until the last minute, no point in getting something now when someone could surprise us with a TV next month.

But the LG's are the best currently, and if you keep it for 9 years, that's only $1000 every year.

    • Exactly this.

It's pretty much between an LG or Sony, the key factors being HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz Variable Refresh Rate.

It might be worth waiting till next year when there will be more options on the table.

I have Samsung 75 inch qled 4K. It is 200hz.Games on ps4 and streamed from my pc with steamlink are amazing. Can't wait to get ps5 hooked up.

    • That's fake 200Hz, it's not VRR, its something called Motion Refresh Rate. Only TV's with HDMI 2.1 are real 120Hz.

Computer monitors are different, they have been doing it for ages now, 75, 120, 144, 240 and the really expensive 300Hz.

      • +1

Fake or not the proof for me comes from my games and it is smooth as silk, in 4K, so whatever you call it, it works.

        • Try an OLED, games jump from good to great & from great to off the hook. 120Hz only also, but VRR, G-sync, 1ms or less latency, perfect blacks, blinding HDR.

        • -1

So a 600Hz plasma is also "perfect"? its not, when you experience real 120Hz then you'll know the difference.

          • @GTR12: I don't know about plasma. On an OLED, the blacks are perfect, as each pixel can turn off 100%. That is the only perfect aspect of any display that I know of and would comment on.
120hz is 120hz, that's what my LG OLED does, there is no difference to know.

            • @Unsafe: That reply wasn't directed at you, it was the previous one.

what ever you do , do not buy a LG .. they use rubbish panels

    Samsung
    Sony
would be the brands ii would be looking at.

    • +1

Sony OLED panels are supplied by LG… What TV did you have a bad experience with?

    • +1

LG make the best OLED panels this season, better than Samsung.
      Sony uses LG OLED panels.
      LG or bust.

  • The Sony x9000h are "Ready for PlayStation 5" TVs.

Just released in Australia this month.

    Local dimming
    4k
    HDR
    120HZ
    Variable Refresh Rate
    HDMI 2.1 (via software update)

    • Link?

        • Like I thought, its ALL lies, it cant do 4k120, and never will.

          3840x2160p(24,25,30,50,60Hz) - That's 4k, you don't see 120.

          • @GTR12:

            HDMI 2.1 (via software update)

            • @The Value: So basically you need to wait for an update, why even buy it now then? You may as well wait for a price drop and the update.

Also LCD is garbage IMO and only HDR10, its already outdated tech, not HDR10+.

              • +1

@GTR12: Geez. Maybe I should cancel my PS5 preorder. guys like you make it sound like without the newest best tv's it is a waste of money to buy a PS5. Guess my 4k, 60hz, HDR10, HDMI 2.0, LED TV will look real bad. Better go pay 3k for a new tv… Jokes PS5 will look slightly better on the 3k units. Don't kid yourself.

                • @mickyt1787: Why don't we all recommend a HD ready TV then? it'll work just fine.

A recommendation isn't a rule, you don't have to follow it, but you might be missing out on features that you can't experience. In your case 120Hz.

          • @GTR12: Hey GTR12, just wondering if this is considered true 4k120?
            https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/p5/au/tvs/spec…

Says it has a game mode which should have 4K@120Hz (HDMI Port 4))

            • @eyiy1234: Yup that's true 120Hz, only that HDMI port though.

Is the Q95 out of your budget?

    • Lol any tv from the last 2 years will be ready for ps5. More bullshit marketing hype from Sony.

      • Ready for PS5 - 4k @ 120Hz, HDR10 (HDR10+ is better), VRR, HDMI 2.1
        Compatible for PS5 - 720p @ 60Hz, HDMI 1.4

What you are describing is compatibility, it will work, but you wont be experiencing all the features.

    • Sony is trading off their brand alone. LCD is obsolete. OLED is current tech at the same price.

What about the LGnano 91 ? Isn’t that 120hz HDMI 2.1? That was recently on here for about $1,800 for the 65 inch model ? I was going to hold out for the Boxing Day sales hoping to get it around $1,500.

LG 65" OLED for $3000ish & put it closer to you, to compensate for the missing 10". They do the 120@4KHDR from the PS5's HDMI 2.1 port…I'm yet to test this on my LG OLED, RTX3080 order arriving later this week, also with a 2.1 HDMI port, hopefully.
