For this week's instalment of Big W's one hour deal, we have….a PS3 160gb Slim Console for $288! Cue cheers
Admittedly, it's not an insanely cheap price, and as usual, stock will be painfully limited, but it may make you a very popular dad/mum/brother/sister/uncle/aunty should one of these be sitting under the Christmas tree..:)
And you can add the Move Starter Pack for an additional $60, which again is not an insane bargain, but a fair price…

    • nah not realli

  • I'll save someone the trouble "what version is the firmware?" (I don't want an answer, just stirring).

    • ill think ill buy another ps3 just so that i dont have to update my current one on 3.41. only if i find a steal on ozbargain that is. :D

  • I don't understand why people don't want to update their firmware. Is there something that you can do with the old firmware that is blocked in the new one?

    • +1

yes you can jail brake the system to play copied games only with the old firmware

      • you cant sign into psn though if you dont update can you?

        • Nope you cant sign into PSN, so no online play ;-(

      • jps433 its not just for copied games. I prefer having all my games installed on the HDD. That way dont have to keep inserting a the game disk in every time and it runs a lot faster off the HDD. All my games i have an original copy off.

A refine answer - I will copy paste this one for future reference :)

$288 for just a ps3 with nothing bundled? I'll pass - I'm sure we can do better closer to Xmas.

    • -5

Most of the bundling will probably be around $400. Besides sony is already losing money from the price cut. Dont think they'd be too eager to lose more. Its not as easy to make like the ps2 anymore

5 years ago maybe they lost money from ps3 hardware sell. Definitely not now. Check the ps3 price in other countries.

  • I don't know. It seems like a good deal, but if you're getting a PS3 you'd probably buy a game too, so when you compare it to one of the bundles from JB Hifi…

    160gb ($288) + Resistance 3 ($78) = $366 @ Big W
    320gb + Resistance 3 bundle = $398 @ JB Hifi

The JB one seems a better deal. But I suppose the $32 price difference would buy you a second cheap game if you were happy with the smaller drive space.

    • or you're going to rip the stock hdd out and chuck in a bigger one or an ssd

  • +1

For those who need a game, i would suggest this deal is better value for money

$350 with 160gb hdd and BF3. It makes the game $62 effectively.

160gb PS3 is basically that price everywhere now lol

    • +1

indeed, so long as the stores are not out of stock

    • Yes, I know…like I said in the post, not an incredible bargain, but it should be a whole $11 cheaper than other places (as far as I know, most places sell the console only for $299)..
Just wondering, has AMEX deal (spend $300, get $30 Westfield Card) expired, or is it applicable for purchases from Big W? Coz there could be some potential "savings" there (spend an extra $11 to get $30 back)…

    Amazon.com has PlayStation 3 160GB + Bonus $50 Credit Amazon for $249.99

    AUD 16.10 ship to Australia

  • What are the chances of this being fw 3.55 or before?

    • Check manufactured date for a good idea of what firmware it will be

    • less than 50% as amazon usually sells quick, and their stock replenish often.

  • so since when has amazon started shipping ps3's to aus?

  • I don't know why everyone is worried about the firmware, as far as I know, the latest firmware (3.7.3) can be jailbroken quite easily…
