Affordable ear buds

I am looking to pick up some earbuds but i cant decide on which to choose.

I play on using them while riding my bike around locally for exercise, and for maybe putting under my earmuffs while i mow the lawn, etc.

They wont be primarily for calls, more for music and podcasts, but i do want to be able to answer a call without disconnecting everything.

There are a lot of posts recently about dudios and soundpeats, and i cannot tell the deffierence in looking at the stats and features.

I love JBL for instance, but ive got a 40ish limit for a present for myself so i understand i get what i pay for.

Any runners, riders, gadget enthusiasts or audiophiles feel like guiding me some?
Much appreciated.

Go with QCY TWS earbuds. They are nice as well.
Soundpeats have a good reviews as well.

    Check this seller
They have been posting deal on soundpeats a lot.
    I haven't bought myself.

I own QCY TWS, and is great.

    • This is actually the post that made me decise to ask out loud. Heaps of deals on the dudious latelg, thrn thr price dropped on one model and i cant work out why and what the deal is. They all seem to have several models with very minor differences

      • You cant go wrong with QCY that what I think. I had couple of them and they do a great job.
Downside is only the mic aren't that great.

Since you wont be taking any calls, it should be a good choice.

    • Whats makes you say qcy? Personal preference? Is there a technical difference between the gear?

      • Personal preference and have read lots of good reviews about them. Fortunately, I got them from aliexpress ages ago.

You would be waiting at least couple of months if you order from them.

You can try something like this

        I have this model

Best to order through geekbuying or gearbest.

If you are not in rush put your order through aliexpress.

I know you said you have a budget of around $40, so please forgive my recommendation:

I am a road cyclist and bought some Aftershokz Aeropex bone conduction earphones a few months ago. The sound quality is decent but the main draw is that you can still hear everything around you, which is obviously important for anyone doing exercise outdoors. You can take calls on it too, although I haven't received any calls on it yet so can't comment on the call quality.

They just released a new 'budget' product called Aftershokz Openmove a few days ago. Price is around 150aud. The good thing with these new earphones is that it now has a USB-C charging port (rather than the proprietary port on the Aeropex):

    https://aftershokz.co.uk/products/openmove

    • I have seen a bunch of the bonephones and they appeal to my nerd side as well as having a practical beneift, way past my rprice range, and i only ride a small local route not so much 'world' noise to cath me. Also whrn im rising wih the kids i go without anyway obviously.

      Thanks fornthe recommendation :)

      • Old man loves them. Pricing was good too.

hmm… for your use case, wireless In-Ear-Monitors (IEM) would work well.

If you are running/cycling in public with them, a pair with Hearthrough tech would be worth considering. This turns on the mics on the earphones to allow some outside noise is so you can hear your surroundings (cars, etc).

IEMs if they fit well, should do a pretty good job at isolating outside noise. You may not even need the muffs for the mower.

check scarbir. qcy t5's seems good for the price. Don't wear them riding, you'll not be able to pay full attention. Backbeat fit style models that allow sound in or bone conduction much safer for this.

  • Heaps posted in the deals. Still waiting on my Haylou GT1-XRs to be shipped. $35

  • Just remember that fitting is as important as price. You might just throw $50 out of the window if they don't fit.

Also, bear in mind that headphones represent a risk for cyclists. That's why bone conduction headphones are considered more appropriate for this kind of activity. Having said that, based on reviews I've read they are not suitable for noisy environment or calls.

All the buds that I've tried so far do not stay in my ears when running. I'd consider something different, particularly if you are cycling or running. A hook model, or at least one with the wings to keep them safe. If you are riding, a falling bud can kill you (when you suddenly try to save the falling bud and hit a car).

I'd suggest you consider options that come with adjustable wings/tips/hooks so you can find what fits best for your ear.

The TaoTronics TT-BH079(AU) mentioned before is described as having 6 x Ear Tips and 4 x Ear Hooks, which seems appropriate. I have never tried any TaoTronics.

It is incredible, but I always go back to the cheap AM61 that came with my Huawei phone. They have a wire connecting left and right, but they fit amazingly and never fall (different wing sizes for different ears). Sound quality is pretty good. I don't answer calls so can't talk about that. You will find it as Huawei and Honor brands:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Original-Huawei-Bluetooth-Wireless…

Something similar that I found on Amazon:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/SoundPEATS-Bluetooth-Headphones-Sw…

Check the reviews online, but for $40ish they might be your best bet.

    • Cheera for the big reply :)

  • I've done heaps of e-bike commuting with a single airpod in one ear, to stay aware of surroundings. Has been good for music, podcasts, and calls (at slower speeds). They don't seal, so outside noise gets in easier and one side feels more comfortable. And being fully wireless, without sealing, it's easy to forget you have them on unless something is playing.
Never found blocking the outside world with in-ears comfortable (except in very loud environments), and they'd be a bad idea on a bike.

Obviously this is out of budget, but there are plenty of clones around that might be worth a look (such as these soundpeats

  • Just to be clear, for anyone concerned:
Not going on huge bike treks in busy areas dodging trucks, i have a 5km lap that goes across a lazy part of a small town and part of the jourbey goes across two parks.

Appreciatr all the valid concern though 👍👌

  • Do yourself a favour… it is obvious you enjoy music… so why not experience the beauty of "proper" sound.

If you skimp and buy cheap, you will only listen to cheap sound…. save a bit extra and experience the "full stage" modern recordings have to offer.

    • Youre right i do appreciate both nice toys and nice noise, but real talk; i am also stingy and prone to break or lose stuff.
