Work, Mac Monitor Recommendation (at Least 4k)

Hi,

I keep postponing buying an external monitor but now I really need one.

I am currently owning the iMac 21.5" (4k 2017). And I am planning to update to new Mbps or iMac next year. (Arm-based)

Most of my uses are Adobe video editing, some graphic jobs and MS office software.

Any recommendations are appreciated. My budget is around $700.

Thanks.

Assuming you are going to have a laptop when you upgrade, you definitely want USB-C. Single cable for charging and for montior. And you probalby want 4K because it's a mac, you are doing video and graphic stuff, and everything else in the apple world is retina display.

MWave has a pretty good search and filter function which I have done for you here - https://www.mwave.com.au/monitors/4k-monitors?sortid=1&displ…

For $829 you can get the HP Z27. I've got one of these for work with a macbook pro and they are great.

As you start dropping below $800 you will need to forgo USB-C or 4K, or both.

    • Thanks for the tip!

    • As you start dropping below $800 you will need to forgo USB-C or 4K, or both.

There are a few that fits the criteria,

      LG 27UL850
      Lenovo T27P-10
      BenQ EW2780U

  • Recently picked up Dell U2720Q from the Dell 15% + 15% coupon stack, came to about $690. Excellent 4K monitor with USB-C, P3 wide colour gamut (same as MBP and iMac built in display). Not sure if you can get it for that low anymore, but I think you can still get it for around $770 right now.

    • Hi, I was trying to buy this model but it seemed out of my budget but around $770, I can make it out. How can I get it by that price?

      • Arg, I was going to say to use AUAFFILIATES15%OFF and EPP2020 at Dell online store, but AUAFFILIATES15%OFF seems to no longer be valid :/

It will be very hard to get something with same pixel density as your iMac monitor.

This article is a few years old now, but remains stubbornly accurate last time I checked - https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays/

Thanks a lot. It is very informative.
There’s actually not many choices for iMac retina.
LG ultrafine monitor is easy choice but is over my budget. (5k) anyways, thanks a lot. It was really helpful.
