Best Desktop PC (Ex-Lease/Refurb preferably) for AutoCAD student.

Hi guys

My mum has started school again after taking time off to look after a ill family related friend

She currently has a crummy desktop when using autocad, it ghosts her mouse icon, not even a SSD did much of a difference.
Looking for something to handle AutoCAD 2020 relatively well.
Not much else is required for her.

Is there anyone who can point us into the right direction. Seen expired refurbished ex-lease pc's deals relatively cheap.

Any advice is greatly appreciated…

No idea of what the required specs are but there are often 15 dell end of lease refurbs around. Check if they meet specs. Often you can get a decent machine around $200, just check on suitability of graphics card in it - or add one.

What is the specification of her current desktop?

you don't want to end up getting something that is actually worse than her current setup. If she has a Ivy Bridge / Haswell generation PC (circa late 2013-2014) it's likely she has a PC that is already faster or on-par than a lot of the refurbs that get posted on Ozb.

The full AutoCad package is pretty demanding. Since she is studying again, wouldn't a decent laptop suit her needs for portability etc? Would she be taking it to class or are classes online? What is the budget?

For future proofing purposes, make sure anything that you look into has a decent multi-core processor as this is essential if you want AutoCAD to run easily. Next thing is RAM. For future proofing purposes aim to get 16gb RAM.

Couple questions need to be answered,
does she need laptop that can run AutoCAD at school, although school most likely has computer but a lot of people still prefer to bring their own laptop.
If that is the case, should get a new laptop when a new deal come up, I don't suggest people get a second hand laptop
If only need a desktop at home and she already has one desktop, and since u have mention about leased pc I guess u don't want to spend too much for it, u can post the spec of her desktop and see what upgrade can be done, or a decent second hand desktop wouldn't cost too much as well, but becareful the requirements on the AutoCAD and test it before u buy, if u are in Sydney send me a private message and I am happy to help out
