EB Games Joycon Drifting Repair

Hi all, anyone ever tried EB games Joycon repair service? Anyone can share their experiences?
Apparently they do joycon repair for flat rate $39.

One of my joycon have drifting issue, missing thumbstick cap, and shoulder buttons issue, so might be worth to repair it for a flat rate.

Update 1: I decided to visit eb and they confirmed $40 repair for all of the faults, as long as it lodged at the same time.
They take $10 deposit, and will send the joycon to qld repair center. Overall should take about 7-14 days.

I know there are parts that can be bought from amazon for around $10, but I'm not that good with fiddly things…

Currently offical Nintendo repair center in Melbourne is closed due to covid. So Nintendo repair would take a while until covid restriction lifted in Melbourne.

  • Buy the joysticks and do yourself

    • The replacement joysticks (and other parts) would take a while to arrive from overseas.

Probably quicker and safer to send it locally for repair, than to risk breaking things - especially if you're completely new to opening and repairing electronics.

  • Are you holding it correctly?

Have you tried blowing air into the stick hole under the flap?

  • One of my joycon have drifting issue
I have original launch joycon (2017) that developed drift after playing smash bros - what worked for me was putting some isopropyl alcohol (bottle from bunnings) and dripping a bit into the joystick. Rotate the stick a few times and haven’t had drift for 6 months now.

missing thumbstick cap, and shoulder buttons issue
    How did this happen?

    • I tried the isopropyl alcohol trick, but that probably only fix it for few months, and the drifting is happening again.

I saw another video on youtube to readjust the thumbstick cap, but doesn't really fix the issue. The thumbstick cap became loose and now missing.

Shoulder button issue apparently is quite common as well. There's replacement part for it as well.

your best bet is to buy this joystick with thumbstick cap and just do it yourself for really cheap, also fulfilled by amazon so very fast delivery even would be here by the end of the week

        • Is it quite straight forward to do?
Might try this next time it drifts again

          • @OzBestDeal: yep, need a small screwdriver to open up the joy cons and replace it. don't pay eb games $39 to do it, they are ripping you off. there are also plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to do it

      • That sucks man! I thought the isopropyl trick would do it as it has done it for my launch joycons.

To open the joy con you need Y tip screw driver - probably check amazon/ebay for replacement parts

Have to check what they are repairing with eb games (if all they do is take apart and do the same isopropyl trick not worth $39)

        • I hope not. I should be able to tell straight away if they replace the thumbstick or not, as I send it to them without the thumbstick cap. That joycon is also the original joycon that came with my first gen console, so it has serve me for a while.

I feel $39 repair fee is worth to bite if eb can fix all of the issue on that joycon. It just lame that nintendo hasn't done anything to the joycon after few iterations of the console.

If you don't have the time and patience to fix the joycon, it's probably better to hand over the $39.

          • @OzBestDeal: Hope that its the last time you ever use the service and try to get into replacing the joycons sticks yourself in the future and probably replace your joycon shell while you're at it.

You can fix it yourself. just buy a WD4 in bunnings and spray it in the gap of the stick. I fixed it my joycon, a few bucks.

    • Thanks, I have a can lying around.. I'll try it next time it drifts again
