Hoping to Buy a Thunderbolt SSD, but Can't Justify The Cost. Do They Ever Go on Sale?

I need more hard drive space for my Mac mini in my music studio and need it to be silent. Also keen for it to be speedy. So I have read around and it seems like an SSD with thunderbolt connection is the way to go, but they are very expensive. I’m wondering if anyone remembers seeing them go on sale, or whether there’s a good option that might be more affordable and can get me like 4TB plus for around $500?

What do you plan on doing with a thunderbolt SSD? An USB3 NVME SSD enclosure paired with a good NVME ssd is good enough for most people.

    • I will use it for working from. Multitrack pro tools sessions with lots of plugins and virtual instruments. Would a Samsung T7 ssd be a good bet?

      • Or even just an orico Mercury elite pro drive?

I haven't used that software so I'm not sure. But a samsung T7 would work well.

        • Do you think a spinning drive would be worth trying? Or ssd the way to go?

@switchoff: It depends on how much disk I/O your software needs. Also spinning disks make a lot of noise.

    Buy ssd and enclosure separately

    • this seems a lot cheaper, but i'm wondering if there are any drawbacks? Just got to get the right interfaces that are compatible? why is there such a big difference?
