Farewell to Tigerair

To our valued customers,

There is no denying these are tough times for everyone in the travel and tourism industry.

And sadly, after nearly 13 years of operation we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the Tigerair Australia brand.

Since our very first flight on 23 November 2007 from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, we’ve provided affordable air travel to more than 30 million customers across Australia, and through the commitment of our people, past and present, created a family of 1.2 million along the way.

If you hold an existing Tigerair travel credit, head to the Tigerair website for information about Conditional Credits and Future Flight Credits for use on flights operated by our parent company Virgin Australia.

We'll miss Tiger Airways, except perhaps the customers portrayed in the TV series Airways.
Here's a sneak peek to help the memories flood back…

AirAsia's motto is 'now everyone can fly,' but only with Tiger do you realise some people shouldn't be able to fly.

    Farewell TA.

Tigerair is usually my choice as its the cheapest airfare to fly interstate (even though not cheap imo) I wonder what prices will be the cheap/normal once flying comes back in action.

    • I think the prices will be a lot higher than what we've been used to over the past 10 years.

QF will gouge wherever they can. Virgin will be trying to make some money so they won't undercut by too much or at all.

Not a fan of Tiger but still sad to see it go. Competition is always healthy.

I only ever had 1 delayed & 1 cancelled flights out of dozens with them.

My favourite being $40 each way Melbourne to Brisbane.

We'll definitely be worse off for not having them around to compete with Jetstar.

    • Those flights were fantastic, also remember getting the 100 flight coupon Bargain many years back, flew with them many times sure there were delays but I was cheap

  • Not a sad day for me. I used to like using them as a price beat for international flights with Jetstar. I scored $9 PER to MEL tickets but they were never worth it as it was the red eye special. tiger was just too consistently shit. I had to sleep at Perth and Sydney airports because of them.

The only use of Tigerair for me is getting Jetstar to price match. There are just too many horror stories from family & friends who flew Tigerair.

    • Same, but swap the names. :o

  • Never had an issue with TigerAir. Had a few delays with Jetstar.

Cheap Air fares, you live with the inconveniences.

Tiger had a bad rep but I had a much better experience with them than any flights I have taken with Jetstar :(

  • Tiger Air allowed me to discover new places… $30 Melbourne to Mackay, $20 return to Sydney, $55 flights to Townsville…. sigh. Will be sadly missed.
