Does anyone knows if it's compatible with the hue hub?
no.
Hue is zigbee, AND lifx is wifi
Are there any zigbee (Hue) lights in this shorter form-factor?
I've got both LIFX and Hue bulbs at home. The LIFX bulbs and the Hue hub both connected to Apple Homekit via Apple TV.
(I started with LIFX bulbs then wanted physical switches, hence the Hue hub + bulbs + dimmer switches addition)
Technically, controlling the LIFX bulbs via the Hue dimmer switches works…..but it's super inconsistent. Sometimes the LIFX bulbs react instantly, sometimes with a several-second (like up to 10 seconds) delay……and sometimes they don't react at all. Usually when they don't react at all, the bulbs themselves have glitched because even Homekit and the LIFX app can't see them.
So after much hand-wringing, I've bought Hue bulbs to replace all the LIFX. They haven't arrived as yet but hopefully the consistency issue disappears.
The only down side is that the LIFX bulbs are so much brighter - 1100 lumens vs Hue's 800 lumens. There are reports of newer 1600-lumen Hue bulbs coming out, but they're apparently stuck at 2700 Kelvin which i find too warm, I prefer 3000K.
lol that's my essay for this morning, hope it helps someone.
Thanks that was very informational, I have a hue hub and a few color and white bulb, I also find the bulbs to be a bit dim so let's hope the new bulbs will fix it
isn't there an abstraction layer which works across all these different connected devices? tired of downloading an app to control every product! and different hub for different things :/
Home Assistant is such an abstraction layer i suppose, but don't think it has an app? Am i missing something?
HA is a single unifying entity, but setup isn't as straightforward
Google Home plus IFTTT.
I'm not missing an app for HA, the web UI works very well on mobile devices.
yea but how do you get to the ip from your mobile device? I don't want to use Alexa/Google home voice commands. Most of the people i have discussed this with would rather just use their phones to control things.
Do you create a shortcut for the web link on phone? that is a workaround for an app, but would rather have an app or build one (;
I am starting a business in IoT hence doing some market research here! Appreciate your feedback
When I did my research I found that a VPN connection is the most secure way to access HA from outside the home. pivpn makes it pretty straightforward to set up an OpenVPN instance on a Raspberry Pi.
Not sure if it’s relevant to you, but Android 11 will have a centralized smart feature so you can bypass the having to load the different apps.

Got the update yesterday and it works great.
There are official apps these days for HA. I don't really use them but they seem ok.
like any app fo iOS? i can't seem to find :/
i have installed one on both Android and iOS just the other day.
I think it is just called "Home Assistant".
@bargainpersona: where do you run your HA? on Rasberry Pi or on a standalone machine as a container?
@[Deactivated]: On an old laptop in a container.
I also currently have the full OS version of homeassistant running in a VM for testing, which I will likely reluctantly switch over to in the future.
These will work with HomeKit if you're in the apple ecosystem, so do Hue lights and sensors etc. Currently have a Hue motion sensor triggering one of these.
just after i bought one for $40… thats the ozbargain curse I suppose.
return it
Kogan full colour ones were 20 for 2. Whats so special about this
It's LIFX
Much brighter colors, and a better user app, and integration experience than kogan cheap pieces
This is not RGB, the Kogan one is. And it works fine with Alexa.
It's LIFX
Or, more accurately, it's not Kogan.
It's not Kogan!
They fit standard light housings with shades (vertical) when the Kogan ones are too tall.
was it posted here?
Have had LIFX globes for 3 months, not exactly thrilled with them. Really expensive so discounted would equate to an OK deal.
Yeah I prefer having the zigbee lights, not sure why but I'm a little uncomfortable with 40+ globes all running on wifi and zigbee just seems better and more responsive
Could be a little more cheaper still, its only day and dusk not color ones.
I have this in my lounge room, it's great
A few months ago I saw the 4x mini Day&dusk pack selling for $75 and full color for $135 at the local bunnings. They were on the clearance trolley for over week.
Have a house full of Hue lights, bought a couple of these for lamps where was screw in and wanted to try a different brand. They would randomly turn themselves on during the night. Tried getting their support to help, just pretty hopeless. Can google the issue and see is fairly common. Wasn't worth the price paid to send them back really. Just save yourself the trouble and buy Hue that work 100%.
Weird, I've never had this issue. Have you got any rules/automations running?
I've got the opposite issue with my LIFX bulbs…they sometimes refuse to turn on even when I want them to.
Oh really? I've had almost the exact opposite experience where my wifi bulbs are far more responsive than my zigbee devices. Maybe this is because I've invested into a Wifi Mesh System?
Bunnings still have these instore and managed to pick up 2 packs today.
Thanks for doing the maths…
