  • 36v electric battery mower if you didnt already know. Uses 2 x batteries in series to get 36v.

Their other mowers are also valid with redemption but I thought this was was bang for buck.

This model is a push mower. If you want a self propelled, you looking at over 1k.

Too expensive for that little power, for the price better get a ego with proven quality and reliability.

    • Can you provide a link?

      • google mate, or at least search for ozbargain, there're a few stores selling them and they seems to post deal on this particular model everynow and then. For the record, I used to have electric, 36v and petrol, out of those the electric beats everything but the cord is a big hassle, petrol still hold its value nowadays because only the petrol can give you really low cut (literally can bulldozer your top soil), electric and battery manufacturer deliberately set the minimum height at least 2 or 3 level higher than the petrol one (the settings is there you just can't get the deck to that, just like car odometer showing 240km/h but the majority won't even make it there). I still have my old rusty honda one in the shed and when I'm bored I take it out for an exercise, it would start in 2-3 tries, everytime.

    • Or better yet go a Honda 4 stroke

      • I'm actually going to sell my honda and buy an electric mower. Not sure if I get ego or makita.

I think this is a great video on the comparison between the ego and the honda from someone that seems to be impartial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl24Evv2QRM
The TLDR is they both have their pros and cons and depends what you value more.

Personally I'd never get rid of my Honda, 8 years old and still going just as well as the first day I bought it.

@donkcat: Thanks for posting. Hopefully I can, switch across.

            • @djcharliek: No worries, I'd love to hear your thoughts after 6 months of use or so and see what you think (enough so you can get some wet grass cuts in). Tough 1 between the Makita and the Ego, the battery prices would really put me off the EGO but seem to be a better product, I've used the Makita blower (36v) and the Makita brushless hedge trimmer (18v) and I can't fault them and those 5ah battery would be handy for Makita's massive range of skin options.

@donkcat: I used to hate mowing, and mowers in particular. Had owned a few over the years, and they always seemed to be a heap of hassle.

Then I bought a Honda four stroke, and it just goes, every time. My only complaint is that I'd like the handle to be just a couple of inches taller.

I had trouble opening up my wallet on a tool for an activity I didn't like (and I still don't really), but spending the money on the Honda was totally worth it.

Might still go an Ego one day, as I suffer tinnitus, and even with high end ear muffs my ears ring even louder for a few days after mowing.

            • @kapone:

for the tinnitus, have you tried anc head/earphones? or something like these isolates

            • +1

@kapone: Once you go (decent) electric, you never go back.

No fumes, much lower noise, no need to store fuel and oil.

          • @donkcat: The dude went back to a petrol lawn mower after getting the new twin blade ego which hvc has just been released this month in Australia.

            • @djcharliek: Oh that’s interesting, didn’t know he changed back.

              • @donkcat: the video was the next one. What happened was that he was also in lockdown and became pretty handy with the maintenance side of fixing up mowers that didn't work, so servicing and maintenance costs pretty much just parts for him. for the rest of us, we don't want to fork out $200 or so for a lawn mower service each year or 2 and this is where the cost savings are justified for me.

                • @djcharliek: $200 for a mower service, what are you having done?

I've never had my mower serviced, I've changed the spark plug, oil and blades but other than that and keeping it clean I guess I'm waiting for a O ring to go.

    • better get a ego

"If I did not have an ego I would not be here tonight
If I did not have an ego I might not think that I was right"

    • I'm literally watching that scene and episode now. Crazy

  • 3x 5.0ah Batteries

Doesn't it need 2 batteries at a time?

What's the point of one extra battery?

    • +5

For the free blower that comes with it?

      • good point…

        Extra batteries are $149

        • Usually 100 bucks on facebook market.

  • Need just a blower, waiting for a deal

  • cant go wrong with a free blower

Do they have a model with a mulcher? Mowing takes some much less time with a mulcher, and no piles of grass clippings to get rid of.

    • Not sure I'd this one mulches, but the higher 531, 532 and 533 models do mulch.

  • Had this and it was crap. Would get stuck if a little bit to high. Got my self a masport and I've never looked back.

    • was it the exact model number? Makita have released completely new design of their motors over the past 2 years.

  • 2 batteries included or 3? or has the original deal/post expired?
