Lenovo G570-43343QM i5 2410M, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD, 1GB 6370M $539 after Cashback + Shipping

80

Example for shipping is $8.95 to Melb (not sure about other places).

This is different to the ~$400 G570s around as it has an i5 instead of the i3. Cheapest I could find on static ice is $599 after cashback. I think it has almost all the basics of everything you'd want in a cheap 15" laptop (eg, 2nd gen i5, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD). Downsides are the lack of USB3 and only having 100MB ethernet (possibly an error in the specs?).

Don't buy lenovo if it's not branded thinkpad.

    • Why?

      • Don't listen to him. I've had a Lenovo Thinkpad Z570 for about 8months and it has been perfect since day 1.

        • "Don't listen to him. I've had a Lenovo Thinkpad Z570 for about 8months and it has been perfect since day 1."

I assume you mean you have a Lenovo Ideapad Z570 ??? otherwise your statement doesn't make sense :-)

        • Yours is an Ideapad Z series, which is a tier higher than the G series.

I think Robins trying to say "Don't buy Lenovo unless it's a Thinkpad series", although the Thinkpads can range from fairly basic (e.g Edge series) to very expensive (T series).

        • Whoops sorry, I did mean to write Ideapad. Don't know why I said ThinkPad :-P

          What about your iPad?

  • Interesting that the Lenovo AP website only shows the G560 with the older core series CPUs.
The website does however list the G570 (43343QM) as being eligible for the $50 Cashback from November 1 - 30, 2011

  • Good deal though +1

  • Just question, how are lenovos build quality ? I mean I know HP has high failure rates while Toshiba long regarded as the Toyota of laptops . How's lenovos rate

    • They're mid range. Better than Acer & HP, but worse than Dell/Asus. http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/computers/apple-laptops-f…

      • the called Dell/Asus the higher range?

      • im pretty sure Lenovo's better than Asus. May I say it is VW of laptops? and its thinkpad can be consider as bentley XD

        • Well, the stats say otherwise. The report is a couple of years old, but unless there's a more recent one that's just as comprehensive I think it's going to be more reliable than anyone's personal experience.

        • +1

Depends. I've got an Asus and it's pretty good quality, but some Lenovo build are a lot better than Asus. E.g. Thinkpads.

A lot of businesses like to buy Lenovo's for their staff because the quality of the laptops are build like tanks - They're really sturdy. You could even carry them around by just holding the screen. In terms of design people tend to lean towards Asus though. Depends on each person i guess.

        • Perhaps the thinkpads are good, but this isn't a thinkpad so I doubt its build quality will be the same.

        • Therein lies the problem with using a single flawed & dated report for ALL of your evidence. It doesn't take into account the different grades of laptops or changes in manufacturing & thus reliability in a very dynamic environment! A lot has happened in the world since that study was released, blithely using it alone as evidence is extremely short-sighted.

For example, several users on here & WP have reported that HP business grade laptops are outstanding, along with their warranty service. Conversely, their consumer grade stuff is fast gaining a reputation as being abysmal, as is their support for it! This disparity in a single brand is not reflected in the ST study. The same could be said of Dell.

Continually pointing to that old study as the 'best' evidence available ATM doesn't make it either more current or wholly relevant. The take home message - you need to do your own extensive research if you don't have a personal experience base to draw on - good, consistent anecdotal evidence has its place! ;)

        • You really want to follow me into every thread to talk about this? Please, either provide some statistics of your own, or stop posting about how irrelevant the study is, despite it being the most comprehensive and most recent study available.

And no, anecdotal evidence does not have its place. In an environment where hundreds of thousands of cases are out there, the results of just a handful are useless.

        • Are you writing an academic journal article on OzBargain StewBalls?

  • These laptop specs get better and better and the prices get better and better, but I never understood why the screen resolutions never followed the same trend.

    • Not everyone wants high res. Easiest and cheapest thing for them to do is stick with lower res.

      • True, but I still think an i5 processor is overkill for a general user. It would be nice to have a few that have a higher res for people with different needs.
