I hate to be even slightly boomer-ish, but i'm struggling to see the value add of wifi in a scale.

How does this compare with say the ~$20 renpho model that's been post here quite often.

I would assume you just stand on it and it updates your health tracker app.

Rather then a bluetooth version where you have to connect each time so it can sync.

Or without bluetooth where you have to update everything manually (assuming you have one that measures more then weight)

The benefit is for those who use trackers and apps.

This particular scale will synchronise your data to Withings Health, which in turn can be linked to other services like Samsung Health, Apple Health or MyFitnessPal. It also recognises different people using the scale.

I bought one about two years ago and am only due to change the batteries now.

Renpho keeps unsync'd history onboard, so you sync when you open the Renpho app.
Syncs data with other apps too (at least on Apple).
Works with multiple people & multiple phones.
      ~$100 cheaper
I have the wifi Aria & the Renpho & prefer the Renpho.

    • To me its pure laziness.

I dont have to do anything extra to log my weight, its already there in the app.

  • Got it on sale in Costco for $99. Pretty good. Wifi sync is more convenient than to bluetooth sync on Renpho. Everything else is the same.

Not for me, but the Body (non-plus) version is also available for $98 if you don't need body composition info.

that was $86 delivered by JBHifi yesterday with the 20% off coupon.

  • I have the cardio version of this. Seems ok except that in Australia done features have been removed. Same as the Apple Watch. We do t get 100% what people in the US and some European countries get.
Wifi on this product is good. Easy to sync with phone.

Looking in the bathroom mirror is cheaper.

    • +3

Yeah and walking to work is cheaper, as is heating your meal in the sun and washing your clothing in a river.

      • Lol!

  • This is a reasonable price. $130 is the normal Costco price, and it drops down to $99 once in a while. Has solid accuracy ratings and for anyone training during covid, a good scale with bf% that syncs with MFP is essential I reckon. I personally have an Aria 1, not as accurate unfortunately, but it's all relative.

  • I bought one and while the weight works, all the other measurements stopped working. There's no warranty in AUS and as a solution they offered me a coupon with a 20% doscount to purchase a new one, but only valid in US

    • That's worrying!
Did you purchase the item from an australian retailer?
How long did you have it before other measurements stopped working?

      • +1

Yes, I bought from HN or good guys. I think it was under warranty, but support was so slow that the time expired with the above described outcome. But I cannot recall exactly the timeline becaue it was a couple of years ago. I thought it was a setting or software bug, but then when I entered in in the forums I found I wasn't the only one. The weight is still working fine.

        • I bought mine from Amazon and got it delivered today. Seems to work pretty well but I did read through that thread and it seems a lot of ppl encounter the same issue after a year or two..

          I'll cross my fingers.

Someone tried to solder the connectors which appear to come apart over time which fixes it.

          I'll cross that bridge later.

  • Another aspect to take into acount is wifi coverage. My wifi coverage is not the best on the bathroom floor so sync is hit and miss and the scale only works with wifi or BT (sometimes) , but not both at the same time. Ideally, it should be great to connect it to wifi and to the phone BT to sync the data. You have to choose only one.
