Need Some Help Buying a New Laptop (around 2k)

Hey Ozbargain,

I made an account as I have been told the community are very intelligent when it comes to computers. (and waited the 24hrs to avoid spam)

I need to buy a laptop. I have had a work laptop for a couple of years (asus) but have returned it.

Ive googled. I've looked at reviews. I still have no idea what would be an ideal laptop.

Im happy to spend around 2k and tbh only really use word/excel, netflix and the mlb/nba/nfl streaming services and some photo editing.
Im not fussed if its touch screen or not. Ive had a look at other discussion threads but some have certain aspects they want or like.

Looked at XPS 13 and a Macbook Pro 13 (1.4ghz)

I would love your opinion, if you had around 2k or slightly above to spend what would it be?

Feel free to ask me more questions rather then me turn this into an essay. Cheers

    • I had a look at that one before.
I was really keen but had a real bad experience maybe 6 years ago with Lenovo. 3 laptops they sent me all had backlight bleed:(
      Was an IPS screen.

If you could wait it out, wait it out. Q4 are generally the time most laptops get a refresh. I, too, am looking for a laptop around the $2000 mark and I am also choosing between XPS13 and Macbook Pro haha.

Yeah I feel like the waiting will then turn into months and years and then ill be asking this forum again haha.
I like the feel of the Mac, I really do but I'm not sure the price and the specs. Im using my misses macbook pro 2015 in the meantime.

yeah in terms of specs Macs are not the best, I'll be waiting for ARM Macs.

    • Ok will do, cheers for commenting.

Hows the service with HP and do you reckon I should wait for the 40% off if im not in a big rush?

      • My experience has been average. But anecdotally, the service on most consumer grade machines are hit and miss.
Worst experience I ever had was with Apple, but I know other people who are delighted with their service.

        • Oh wow, I was going to assume Apple had the best service then again never owned an Apple product. Was it a laptop problem?

          • @iNeed2Pee: Nah, once with an iPhone and once with an iPod. Both poor experiences.
I've no issues with the Macbook Pro. But it's the same with other machines I've have or have owned where I've only needed a software or bios update and most service providers have been pretty good with that.
