Just got some updates from Vodafone. They are pushing out some new offers with HTC Sensation ($5 on $29 Cap), HTC Evo 3D ($5 on $49 Cap, but currently out of stock) and Samsung Galaxy S II ($5 on $49 Cap). HTC Sensation is probably the better deal out of the 3 — it has dual core (Qualcomm), a big phone (4.3" qHD) and SenseUI 3.

Offer expires end of this month. There's also $84 from MoneyBackCo.

  • This is an insane deal!! Down from $45+5 to $29+5?!

  • +3

Note that the Samsung Galaxy S II is down to $10 on the $29 cap as well as the reduction on the $49 cap - was $20 previously on the $29 cap.

    • Hmm… My three contract has run out and I'd seriously consider this if the $29 cap didn't have such a paltry data allowance

  • +5

    wtf…

At the rate these phone deals keep coming out, soon they will be free in cereal boxes.

    Amazing deal.

  • +4

I'm amazed at how the highest end android phones are becoming so cheap…

    • +2

Well the SGS2 has been out for over 7mths, so price drops are expected

    • +5

That's the problem with Android phones — the highER end phones are always just around the corner :) Those are dropping price because Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr and HTC Rezound might get released soon.

      • +3

I dont really see this as a problem thou. The way I see it, it makes these phones more affordable to people. They are not getting a second rate product. I can guarntee that these phones are future proof. I mean my old Nexus One is still being used and thats nearly two years old.. These phones are better than the N1. I more see this as a positive ;)

        • +3

Also an N1 user here :) I guess it's a "problem" only if you bought it last week.

        • +2

Yea thats fair enough. Anyway I found the best thing to do if you want these phones (and no 2 year contract) is to just go on Live Connected (or TPG if you must), buy the phone outright and if you feel the need to upgrade just sell your phone and buy your new one :D Ive done that a few times over the last 2years.. I think ive finally settled on the LG 2x thou :) Has all I need in a phone :D

      • Not to mention the HTC sensaion XL is already out…

specs here - mighty impressive phone!

      • +2

the pc market don't complain about obscene hardware depreciation, people should be happy the used smartphone market will be so much more alive than the stagnated Apple market.

So much choices out there, if you bought one you didn't like, quickly sell it off and look for another, you hardly need to stay on one model :D

  • sensation has been that price since it came out, but regardless best phone on the $29 cap!

    • +4

I'm sure it was more than $5 handset a month.

      • nah it wasn't, trust me lol! it was telstra exclusive for a long time, when we got it (vodafone) i was like wow at the pricing.

surprisingly they didn't push the price - always been $5 in our matrix

        • I'm willing to believe it was always $5 on the $29 cap. On the pricing matrix what's the cost on a 12 month $59 cap?

        • mines a little outdated on the computer at home but it says $25 for 12 months(25+29)

        • Sorry, I meant on the $59 cap + any handset repayments.

Was hoping handset repayments would be minimal when you move up to $59.

  • $25 on the $29 cap over 12 months :)

    • 12 months plan never goes down :(

      • +3

$648 over 12 months, not bad considering you get the cap for 12 months and you don't need the cash upfront.

  • +3

ok so how many ppl voted for this deal cuz the mod posted it? :p

but seriously, why doesnt Vodafone ever reduce the price of 12 months plans. Its quiet clear thet most ppl are looking to get phones on 12 month plans. especially since the life of the phone is somewhere between 8-12 months. after that its not sold any more. Good example. go looking for the Desire HD on voda's site. it was released on the 5 November 2010. Less than a year and its already gone.

    • 12 month contracts have always made more sense in my eyes.

    • "ok so how many ppl voted for this deal cuz the mod posted it? :p"

      Hi !!!!

      • +2

I doubt that. I have seen Scotty posts with less than 10 votes too.
Though OZB is going unpredictable. Few posts get more than expected positives and few good gets less.
Few gets too much negs, as few users follow the trend.

    • +9

how many ppl voted for this deal cuz the mod posted it?

Ha. Maybe I should post it from my secret ghost account (with "1st post! plz be kind" comment). But then I might get banned by other mods…

Hopefully they're making way for the Samsung Nexus to arrive.

Anyone know when the new BB Bold is coming to Vvodafone?

    • -7

      nexus - MEH.

      • he's right. It was a disappointment to many including me, good thing I didn't sell my android phone.
Even the Razr hasn't got the best reviews due to poor camera, battery and general performance over older phones like the Sensation, Atrix and SGS2

        • +1

I dont really think it was a disapointment. Sure they could have done more but it still has dual core, ICS, HD screen (1024x720 I think it is?), NFC etc

And if it is priced the same as the previous nexus phones (529$ USD) then im not complaining :) After trying many different phones over the years, CM7 is a major positive in any phone, and as this is a google phone.. it will have it :D

Having said that I wont be upgrading :( To many phones!

        • +1

camera and processor was a big letdown for me.
The screen has no comparison but ICS takes a fair bit of space for the buttons.

Personally I'll be waiting for the Kal-el or OMAP5 or any A15 based quadcore with a 720p LG IPS before upgrading.

  • +1

All new phones should be given with 12 month cap now, looking at the rate at which the phones are being released.

    • They do have 12 months cap, it's just more expensive

      • Soon there'll be 6 months cap plan, by the looks of how often Android phones get updated (i.e short life cycle) … locked for 24 months seems unreasonable nowadays …

  • +3

    No deal for me. Even though looks good on paper;
but given the pace at which technology is changing
and the prices are dropping it makes no sense to signup for 24 months contract (Not to mention its Vodafone).

    • Whats the alternative? its too easy to always be waiting for the next thing. Its like that old pub joke "free beer tomorrow".

  • It's a great deal but I won't touch Vodaphone.

You need to actually use the data and voice links of the Vodaphone network, which is so bad their customers have a class action against them.

    • yeah as good a deal as it is, i just cant + for the voda network, so many bad things about them.

  • On the vodafone website, they mention the HTC Sensation is "New 850MHz network ready" (3G: 850/1900/2100 )
But on GSMarena website, it only says HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100

Does anyone know which one is correct?

    • there are two versions of the sensation; GSM Arena only lists the 2100/900mhz model. seems vodafone are selling the 2100/850mhz version (same as the one telstra sells) and not the 2100/900mhz version that optus would sell (due to having no 850mhz 3g network and wanting all their users to be able to access their 900mhz 3g network)

    • what would you say is par then?
qhd screen and 1.2ghz processor is pretty good…not many phones have topped that lately.

    • +11

I think he is talking about the iPhone 4s which costs 2x as much and still doesn't match up to these phones….

      • +10

but it haz more GBz and teh siri

  • +10

Don't forget to add "25CREDIT" in the promo code to get a $25 bill credit.

  • Sensation can be had for $620 outright so not an amazing deal. Check ebay (telstra version)

    • Or $450 for a used (but great condition) one.

Just sold mine for that much.

However, dont mean to spoil the good times, but please be weary of the sensations dust issues, just google it or check out xda forums :(

    • +2

Acually can buy it for 469$ from Kogan

      http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/HTC-sensation/

Thou not with the 850 mhz band

  • If you apply the 2 months free, the 10% SYCC discount, and the -25 credit, the -84 MBC, the total cost over 24 months is $579.40. That is a pretty good price for a non-grey imported phone by itself, but throw in 2 years worth of calls, its simply phenomenal value.

    • +1

      What's SYCC discount?

      • Should read SYCS: typo. 'Show your card and save'. Basically if you're a member of any motor club (RACQ, RACV, NRMA etc.)

      • +1

Don't think you can get motorclub discount and MBC at the same time…

    • +1

SYCC discount doesnt exist any more. and you cant combine it with MBC ne way

  • -1

I don't think this HTC is highly recommended. I'll wait for SGS2 price drop
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1689229

colour of the HTC Screen looks dull compared to SGS2
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2fAf5QC3SQ

    • colour of the HTC Screen looks dull compared to SGS2

What you're referring to is the over-saturation of the screen, caused by artificially inflated colour gamut and intensity. This makes colours look more vibrant, at the cost of looking fake.

  • Sensational!

  • +7

I guess it's an okay deal, but… (guarantee you I will get negged for this)

    Unless you want to be

    • Locked into a Voda contract for 24 months
    • Get a crappy allowance of $180 credit and 200MB data

    You could
    - Buy this phone outright for $500 ($20/per month)
    - Get a LiveConnected $11/Month plan ($11/Month) WITH $900 Credit ($450 to anyone, $450 to LC) and 1.5GB data

    BENEFITS:

    • PostPaid, no lock in contract
    • Better network in general
    • Twice the amount of credit and over 7x the amount of data

    AND you save $3/Month…

Mabye it would've been better if the Voda plans offered more value… considering the new prepaid 30 cap has $450 credit and 500MB data. Seems a bit dodgy.

    Phone outright here - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-UNLOCKED-HTC-SENSATION-…

    • Oh wow! Do they have free calls between members too?
Edit: nvm read the post properly haha

    • I need the credit to call internationally so….

      • give TPG mobile a go then, they include international calls in their cap.

  • +1

LiveConnected Plan is here if you're wondering….

    http://liveconnected.com.au/index.php/sim-only/pioneer/item/…

  • just wondering how this deal compares to the recent outright htc incredible s deal (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56117)?

    • +2

      dual-core > single core

    • +2

If you're new to Android then it's still a great phone for the price and has a relatively fast single core processor.

  • bump bump! Guys the thing is now free on $29 cap. Online only..
