First deal. Currently looking for a new laptop as the battery life on my "high end" Surface Go Gen 1 is barely lasting 1.5 hours between charges and has been slowing down considerably. Specs seem decent but limited reviews online.
Trackpad is plastic which is a shame + apparently has loud clicks.
Looking for other options if anyone can recommend.

NVIDIA® GeForce® MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 graphics memory

  • Can you get a new battery for your existing system? I'm on a dell laptop now - bought it on an amazing special in 2014. It is still faster than anything new, although if I was using it to work on high end video I'd soon find it's limitations. Also, despite the common belief, I'm still on windows 8.1 which is way faster on this system's aging hardware than 10. I had a hard drive replaced under warranty, and since then I've put in an ssd - a few years ago now. Recently I spilled a full cup of coffee into it - dismantled it and dried what I could. I have a new back lit keyboard on order for $30; in the meantime I bought an MS usb kb and mouse which works awesome.

A new system with 1gb ssd is nice. Mine also came with 16gb ram - I've never used it even when working on video (2k) and large raw photos. That's with samsung's ssd rapid mode enabled as well (it uses ram as a sort of virtual drive for pre caching). I'm sure windows 10 will use more of it though. It looks like good basic specs.

Thought about it and had been using an external power bank on the go via usb C but tedious. My Surface Go is now almost always plugged in.

  • I'd personally get something with lower specs but higher build quality, seems that you can deal with surface go, no need to invest in higher specs

      Any suggestions?

Honestly, I need something that has a good battery life and decent performance but in a small form factor. Thought about Surface Go 2 but close to $1,000 despite it on sale at JB Hi-Fi atm. Got my Surface Go for ~ $500 post-AMEX + GST refund. :)

Can't seem to decide after days of looking at reviews/other options

Not sure how your budget is, but in general, I’d aim for xps13, Lenovo carbon x1, LG gram series, surface laptop 3, you get my point, high quality + long battery life but with worse performance (which saves your battery life). If you want it to last a bit longer, go for at least 16gb of ram, the rest doesn’t matter

  • Look into the Metabox laptops, high end for decent prices.

    • Thanks. Looking for <14" form factor.

  • Am I right in thinking that the Ryzen processor/graphics in this deal are actually superior?

ANd it has a touch screen?

Yes, the AMD Ryzen 4700u is superior to the Intel i7-10510U posted in this deal. The Intel processor is only a quad core vs 8 cores of the AMD. Additionally the i7-10510U based on older 14nm architecture vs 7nm of the AMD. In multi threaded tasks the Ryzen 4700u could be 30 to 50% faster then the Intel 10510u.

    • GPU MX250 is better than the integrated one from your link

  • I got the 15 series with similar specs but gtx 1560 for 200 dollar more. That can be another option op
