Should I get GTX 1650 Super or RX 570?

Hey I'm deciding to build a gaming PC with a xeon e5 2520v2 (Got motherboard, cpu, and ddr3 1333mhz 8gb ram for $70 altogether) and I looking at the graphics card, my options are
rx 570 4gb from asrock phatom for $190
or
gtx 1650 super galax oc 4gb for $230/ gtx 1650 super TUF oc 4gb for $250

Which option should I go for, and is the $40 or $60 in crease in price worth it for the NVIDIA benifits?? Thanks

Even though I prefer NVIDIA, I suspect the 570 would be better in your rig.

  • Why so? Got any reasons?

  • gtx 1650 super - > CUDA, NVENC, stable drivers , blue+green team membership

try to find a used GTX1060 6GB if possible for a cheaper price.
add more 8GB RAM and that PC will be enough for sometime.

there were loads of cheap ex-mining RX570s in ebay sometime back but not sure in current situation.

Has this ever been a factor in performance?

  • In terms of performance, is it worth that extra $40? Also would nvidia work better with intel?

Nvidia works better on Intel, and Nvidia works better on AMD. AMD have had many reported issues with their GPU drivers.
There is no connection between GPU and CPU brand.

  • If i do go for gtx 1650 super, which version should I get? Galax or TUF?

As long as they have the same ram, just get the cheapest one,

try find a second hand 580 below $170

  • I trust brand new ones more, since it comes with warranty and i also dont have to come in contact with anyone

      You're doing everything wrong.
An old Xeon with low clockspeeds, and no tight-latency like the Core-i chips for starters. Quite old RAM with low speeds and amount. All this for "gaming". And you're concerned about "used" GPU. Bruh.
The only reason to get the GTX 1650 is for Low-Profile versions, and lately they've been out of stock or simply overpriced.

As others have said, focus on price, as that's the only thing worth going for in a system like this. That means buying used, and mainly means buying AMD. Anything above an RX 470 is going to get bottlenecked by the CPU-RAM. So if I was you, look for a Used RX 470 for like $100. Which should hopefully bring your total system cost to like $200. But stepping up to an RX 570, RX 480, RX 580, or RX 590 are also fine, as long as you're paying like $150 - $200 for it (which brings your system cost to like $350 or under).

Unless you got your system all for $70 like you said, it's not worth much. Heck, I got a Dell Optiplex SFF system off eBay like 3 months ago for $250 shipped. Specs were Core i7-3770, 2x 4GB RAM (added another 8GB for $15), had a 256GB SSD with Windows10 Pro. It's a nice looking unit, performs pretty well, and no messing about it just works out the box. It was for a friend, I kept the DVD/CD writer drive, but told him if he wants BluRay for the TV he can swap it out for like $100 or so later. The boot drive is enough for now, and he has a 2TB external HDD he's also using to store his media. Also told him if he wants that upgraded to get a 1TB m.2 SSD, and use it in a caddy/converter (and he can implant into a laptops too).

… But for that system, I told him to focus on getting a discreet GPU first, and I told him to pay anywhere from $100 upto $250 for it, but it must be a "Low-Profile" model. That means anything from GT 1030, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti, or GTX 1650. So that would bring his total system cost to like $300-$500, but that's pretty cheap compared to Used Intel NUCs, and pretty potent for Medium/60fps/1080p Gaming.

      • So you think $230 for gtx 1650 super is too expensive in my system? If I do buy that then my total system cost would be around $350, is that good enough? The problem is that I cant find rx 480 for around $100, if I did i would have snatched it up like crazy. Can you link me?

        • I though you said it was a "GTX 1650", not the Nvidia-Super Variant.
If its the regular 1650 for $230, it's still a tad expensive. If it is the 1650-Super then for $230 it is decently priced. And yes, there is a notable difference between the two. So I think under $250 for a GTX 1650-S seems acceptable, though I expect these will be more like under $200 in a couple weeks (Nvidia next-gen GPU announcement).

The hierarchy goes something like this:
Luxury: RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080, GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2070-S,
          Ultra: RX 5700 Xt, RTX 2070, RX 5700, RTX 2060-S, RTX 2060

          High-end: GTX 1080, RX 5600 Xt, GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1070 Ti,
          Midrange: GTX 1660-S, RX 5600, GTX 1070, GTX 1660, RX 590,
          Budget: RX 5500 Xt, GTX 1650-S, RX 580-8gb, RX 480, GTX 1060-6gb,
          Low-end: RX 570, RX 5500, GTX 1060-3gb, GTX 1650, RX 470.

I would hit up Facebook Marketplace if I were you.
I just looked on Gumtree now, and the RX 580 is from $170 - $290 but sparse pickings. I would be aiming for around $150. It's used, and getting long in the tooth…. but still a potent option for those on a tight-budget.

Sorry man, but the rx 580 just dosent interest me, I can overclock a rx 570 and get the same results, and plus im gaming on 1080p so i dont need that extra 4gn of vram, and I could acquire a rx 570 for $35 less.

        No you can't

Not today, but in a year or two, my hunch is that 4GB is going to be very limiting.

If you want to do encoding, get the Nvidia.
It is also easier to sell on the used market.

Value is pretty good for either one

  • You really should be pairing a E5-2620 v2 with a founders edition RTX 3090. If you can get one at the rumored $1400 USD launch price, your total rig will have set you back $1450 USD. Total steal!!!!

I would go for the GTX 1650 Super - it's newer, better performance, and much lower power consumption and heat (both idle and loaded).
Where are you getting the Galax GeForce GTX 1650 Super for $230? The best price I've seen recently is $239 at Umart.
