Isn't airfry just convection by another name?

    • -2

It's not like anyone polices a standard for what's what but in general terms I would say an air fryer is optimised to use air in terms of size and shape. I got my mate into sous vide recently and we agreed that it's great but hard to market. We decided we needed to sell our own one out of China and call it a Water Fryer, we figured it frys as much as an air fryer so why not. H2O Fryer maybe?

what are you even on about?

        • -2

My target demographic isn't those that have to ask, people with a screw loose know exactly what I'm talking about.

    • Reading your link, which is quite informative, thank you, they dont really define what is air frying and convection. At best they say airfrying is "super" convection. But what defines the super?

Then they recommend the Cusinart Oven Fryer With Airfryer, and also the Breville Smart oven again with Airfryer.

Having used the Airfryer in the Breville, it works quite well with the airfryer tray, as long as you dont stack things too closely - eg french fries need a gap around then to allow heat to reach all sides, which the article you link to mentions as well.

Spending a little more if you can makes more sense than buying the non air fryer

This is $359.10 so for the extra $90 it could be worth it.

  • Thanks! Got 1, seems to be a very versatile appliance from the reviews

  • I've got one. Never used the steam function, but it's a good little normal oven. I rarely use my big oven now.

    • Same here, I've had one for a while, very handy to use on smaller dishes, saves time heating to temp and cost over using the normal oven. I don't use the steam function much either.

  • ran out of stock while researching it, guess not getting one.

Try again, I had one in my cart for price comparison, have cancelled that, so it might be available if you are quick, though I think the up market model might be better value as in my comment above.

  • This oven is great. Cooks the food without drying it up if u use the steam bake function.

I love the size because it is usually a waste to cook in a big built in oven.

If you usually just use the oven function then it is just a waste because there are plenty of portable ovens in the market and you are probably better off with a glass type where the oven is on the lid because it is easier to clean.

    Great for steaming fish.

Myers used to have it 20% ebay sale. Not sure if they still have it.

Can anyone tell me if this one any good? I want to get a benchtop oven. My old one is dead now.

  • If anyone is in market for a chinois, I dont think you can go past this "deal".

  • Got one for steam function.

We have one. It is awesome. We love the steam function. It is perfect for Chinese style steamed fish with spring onion, ginger and garlic. Convection works great too. Very good price.

I got one at $285 2 months ago
Been using it nearly everyday including toasting bread in the morning
Steaming fish or Chinese style egg
Also did some baking of cakes during the weekends when lock down

Just for those that would like to use the steam function
I found that the steam function is not as "strong" as the standard 3 tiers steamer [It produce less steam in compare)
So try to put a bit more time for steaming
    eg.
to steam fish, I need to set 15mins in Super Steam mode at 120 degrees (normally only 10mins in traditional steamer)
to steam egg, I need to set 25mins Standard steam mode at 100 degrees (normally only 15mins in traditional steamer)

  • The reason I do not need to buy this. We can steam the food on our stovetop. I want the air fryer.

  • The Breville BOV860BSS Smart Oven Air Fryer was $389 at Appliances Online mid last week for about a day. I snapped it up straightaway. Then it went up to $421 and then $445 now it's sitting at $439. Not sure why the price is jumping around.

Gotta say, I'm loving it so far!

    • Is it any good?

      • I've had it for less than a week so far and I seem to be able to use it for everything that needs cooking. It cooks meat more considtently than my existing Tefal Airfryer. I haven't had to clean it properly yet though so I can't really comment on that or it's longevity. The reviews I read and watched before I bought it mostly had 5/5 stars.
