Steamworld Heist is one of my favourite games. Upgradeable characters, but not too complicated. A bit of thinking, but not stressful.
It sounds a bit weird being turn-based, but it's a lot of fun. It's also really helpful because with an injured arm I don't have to operate a controller constantly.
One fun thing is collecting the different hats. You can shoot hats off the heads of the enemy and then pick them up to add to your wardrobe. Use a sniper and aim it so that the laser sight goes through the top of the hat - if the laser stops at the hat, that means you will hit the head of the enemy and you won't get their hat.
