Block International Spam Callers on Prepaid Plan

I am currently receiving around 5 international calls a day all from Leeds, England that ring for a second or two then hang up. These are always from different numbers so adding them to my block list doesn’t work. Using apps such as TrueCaller iOS also doesn’t seem to work. Changing my number is not an option.

I am currently with Amaysim and paying $30 for 30GB of data and unlimited calls/messages. They have no ability to block international callers. Telstra offers this service “Mobile Protect” for their customers that allows you to block international calling codes.

I never have a need for overseas callers calling me ever. Is there other telcos cheaper than Telstra’s $55 plan that have a service to block international callers?

5 international calls a day all from Leeds, England

Probably just Leeds United fans sharing the joy.

Try a third-party blocking app such as Mr. Number, Call Blocker, and Calls Blacklist. There are dozens more

It has come to the point that if I don't know the number I don't answer it, it's unbelievable. If the person doesn't leave a message or voicemail I won't reply.

I have "should I answer app" & it tells you who it is if the number has been reviewed by other members. It's pretty handy.

      • Do you know any apps that allow you to block entire country codes? I have used a few in the past and still received spam calls. Not really willing to pay a subscription when all I want is a super simple “block this range of numbers” function.

        • What mobile brand do you have? It may have an international blocker in the settings.

  • It's the price of selling your soul - there is a cost. Google, amazon, microsoft, fb and all those apps for various business etc supposedly in the name of convenience. Avoiding all this is a discipline, but not much of one. Just a little maintenance now and then and a lot of avoidance. I also give out misinformation rather than correct details. I probably black list a call, geez, less than once a year? That blocked caller is usually not long after I've made a purchase from a so called legitimate business - they still sell on your details.

Your strategy of not answering unknown numbers and not returning calls when there are no messages is also a good one. However, I don't do that any more. What I do is answer with "hello", nothing else. They'll usually tentatively ask if I am (my name), then I answer yes. They are calling me, if they don't know my name I hang up then black list them. That is quite effective - sometimes you do get legitimate calls from business etc.

    • Oh… and avoid providing yes, no, correct, that sort of response. The theory is that criminals can doctor that to make it sounds like you've agreed to something etc in a recorded conversation.

  • Try have a landline the only calls I get are spam but not on my mobile
