I am looking for a cheap 5G Modem.
Optus has 5g modem for $200 (locked with optus).
I want to try the new 5g network without spending $200 in case it wasn’t great.

Couldn't you take advantage of their speed and reception guarantees to try it out?
Your best option would be to buy a 5g phone and flip it when you're done. If you pick the right phone, you might only loose like $50 that way.
5g is very light for a modem…
Optus still does the 5G satisfaction guarantee - when I tried it they guaranteed that you would have a min of 50Mbps AND could get a 5G signal
I was able to get around 50Mbps but only over 4G so returned it after 3 weeks - that was 3 weeks of free internet using their Nokia modem - they sent a prepaid box to return the modem in
Same as I posted on another thread there are plenty of the Huawei 5G modems on eBay, if your lucky uou might find the ZTE MU500 5G Modem cheap then what Telstra sells them for,. cheap ive seen them secondhand below $200 on eBay, yes the ZTE new is $599 from Telstra though honestly not sure if its locked,, anyone try one and knows?
But suggest you stick to buying a portable version too i.e with built in battery
as depending on your location from the 5G tower you'll need something too move around while indoors anyway there also handy for portable use .. here is an eBay search I done👍😀

edit: if you have an Optus data plan you should get 5G on your simcard with no extra costs, though different story with Telstra
The $216 4G B818 from Optus is not locked. I have used a Telstra and Vodafone SIM in mine that I got in May.
Optus does NOT sell a 5G modem, the terms are that you return the Nokia 5G modem a the end of the contract or earlier if the contract is broken (see contract for break conditions) or pay some crazy amount.
