Australian Strawberries 250g $1.30 @ Woolworths

570

Look for bright coloured firm strawberries with no soft patches or blemishes. Strawberries can be stored in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. Wash strawberries before slicing away their green stalks to prevent water from penetrating the fruit. Place into a bowl of water then lift out and drain on paper towels.
Grown in Australia.

$1.50 at Mitcham VIC Coles.this morning.

  • Interesting that they say they only last 2-3 days in the fridge. We shop on the weekend and they are still good for lunchboxes on Friday

    • “Best before”

  • I wasn't aware that anyone was importing strawberries; I didn't think they would survive the storage times.

    • Imported strawberries are probably stored frozen on transport.

But these however are grown in Australia. So far less of a transport time.

      • So, someone is importing strawberries?

        • Who knows. But it seems it's not Woolworths.

Strawberries should last more than 3 days. I store them in a Sunbeam vacuum sealed containers, easily get 1 week life out of them.

Considering frozen strawberries are so expensive in shops, would it be worth to freeze them to use in smoothies etc?

    • +3

Yep, I've frozen many trays of ripe strawberries at 50c/punnet & blueberries at 66c/punnet - I have them with breakfast muesli.
