Lenovo X13 (AMD) vs E14 (AMD)

Good day folks. Am potentially in the position of needing to purchase another laptop in the near future. Did a bit of shopping around and found the Lenovo E14 (AMD) on sale at a pretty good price.

Not requiring the laptop for anything specific like CAD or gaming. More of general portable computing. Current in-service laptops include an X1 carbon (2016) and a T460s (2016)

I guess the main reason for my post is that while shopping around, I saw the X13 AMD at roughly $1350. I like the idea of a smaller laptop but what do you guys think are the main differences or pros and cons between the two models? I would never have considered the X13 before because I always expected the X series to be far and above in pricing, but this one with the AMD renoir in it brings it into sneaking past the wife territory. Still it's 62% pricier than the E14, so that's given me pause.

Anyone care to share their thoughts and opinions?

The X13 is better quality. It's a real ThinkPad that's built for schools/industry/business and it'll hold up in a way that the E series won't. The E series isn't bad, but the build just isn't as good as the X series.

Speaking from experience, I've owned a lot of T and X series Thinkpads and they've just been leagues ahead of other models in terms of their durability and serviceability. My trusty T420 from almost a decade ago is still going strong today. Other notebooks of that era are all probably dead today.

E14 aren’t bad I see a lot at work. I have a x1 carbon 7th gen - would lean towards the x13 if budget allows. Battery life longer, brighter screen, lighter, build quality - but all comes at a price.

  • Thanks for everyone's input. It's given me a bit more to think about.
