Ryzen is only available in T14, which is itself a good laptop. Gen 7 and Gen 8 have very similar performance, so $1650 is a good deal.
I have the Gen 6. Keyboard on the X1 is truly amazing. I enjoy typing on it as much as typing on my mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Brown switches. I believe travel for Gen 7 onwards is slightly shorter though (1.5mm vs. 1.4mm or something).
we have X1's at work, and for some reason, they have a bucketload of problems. Speaking to our Lenovo tech support guy, he said they are the most repaired machines he does by a clear margin
What is your bucketload of problems?
They are repaired the most because they have recalls issued on priority unlike consumer laptops where companies don't issue any recalls and let consumer face the problem.
Thinkpad x1 carbon is a reliable line and even if problem arises, there is support from lenovo depending upon if you have taken on-call support or deliver to depot.
