What's Next in Line after The Vodafone TV?

Currently, I use a Vodafone tv as a main smart box in my bedroom. Purchased it probably 16 months ago. Seems to be getting a bit laggy and annoying to use.

What's the next box inline (in terms of price and performance)? I went with the Vodafone box originally because of the ability to sideload apps, it has official ANDROID TV, chromecast and it's price is spot on ($79).

  • I've got no complaints from the Xiaomi MiBox. Had it about 3 or 4 years, works fine, have a 4TB HDD plugged in and it manages that fine.

  • Upgrade the TV itself?

One issue I've had with my VTV is for some reason the remote drains batteries like crazy :/ Have switched to using my phone to control it which is actually annoying!

Maybe the soon to be announced Google Android TV plug in code-named Sabrina. Details still shifty.

Top of the tree would be the Nvidia Shield Pro.

    Hi AydenFX,
I have recently done some research on this and found that in this price range i.e. less than 100$, you can get either Vodafone TV or Xiaomi Mi TV s. I currently have Xiaomi Mi TV box and it’s no good.
I am planning to buy Nvidia Shield TV from Harvey Norman. They are selling it for 249$ at the moment. I know it’s pricy but reviews says it’s definitely worth spending some extra bucks.
In addition, I hope below link with detailed analysis of android TV boxes will help,

Probably asking the obvious but have you done a factory reset? Don’t forgot to power cycle to prevent the update if still using the original firmware.

  • apple tv?
    telstra TV?
    chromecast?
    actual smart TV?

      actual smart TV?

Honestly this is the worst thing to spend money on. In a few years the software isn't support and your 'smart' TV is just a dumb TV.

My 'smart' TV software is no longer looked after, its now used as a dumb tv….

Seems to be getting a bit laggy and annoying to use.

Give it a factory reset…… I did mine a while ago when it was doing some quirky stuff and it was way faster!

Also turn off all that crap on the front page, also helps speed it up.

Oh and I only just recently (as in the last week) found a shortcut to rebooting the box, press and hold the power button the remote, then go restart. Far out… I've been digging through the menu all these years to reboot it!

    • How do you remove crap from the front page?
I've disabled a few apps like Netflix and Google Play Movies.

I'll have to have a look, It was a mix of long presses on the items at the front page and in the settings you can turn things off.

I'm down to one row of icons! Turned all the youtube/plex suggestions off also

  • having issues with Chromecast feature on my VodaTV. Anybody else have this issue?
