Battery Powered Mower Preferably Makita, or Comes with Batteries

Been looking for a battery powered mower for a while, yard is about 200 meters squared according to google…

had a bit of a search in this thread, did find a few posts, but no links with anything current.

I already have 5 batteries from other kits for makita, so prefer makita, but they seem overly expensive for something decent, the cheapest one doesn't seem to review too badly, and no one ever seems to do deals on them.

I see the victa 52V was like around 400 (with batteries), but nothing like that now that i can find. - around 400 bux for something decent with batteries would be good.

so, anyone found any good deals for battery powered mowers? (got any recommendations)

  • What are the capacities of the 5 Makita batteries that you have (in mAh)? How old are the batteries?

Based on the current information from your post, I'd go with a Makita mower.

    • 5AH batteries, 2 years old, only charged 2 times each.

but the makitas seem to be around 600 bux+ for anything good, the 400 dollar mower doesnt seem to rate well, specially for a yard this big :(

Yeh, I see what you mean. What sort of grass do you have?

The $400 is 380mm wide with a 40L catcher. Assuming you have buffalo, you'd probably have to empty it 6 times per mow and the width makes it a bit of pain as you have to run a few more passes over the lawn.

The $550 one is 460mm with a 60L catcher. That'd need to be emptied 4 times (not that bad) and not as many passes.

Both are brushless which is great and you should be able to mow the lawn without swapping batteries. I reckon you'd get the most value out of the Makita 460mm, reusing your batteries.

        • yeah, great advice and info, a mix of buffalo and crap, (leafy crap and clover which has taken over.)

just annoying that there are so many different models of makita, what does what and the difference between them all!

(I see your referring to the DLM461Z)

this just came up, but i just cant bring myself to spend 100 more than it was last year, if it where a higher end makita maybe :S

    • You can see in the comments there that the 2ah battery won't make it through a complete mow. Rough guess would be that it will get through around 100sqm per charge.

      • reviews seem to put it at 400sqm pretty easily on the bunnings site, think it should be good.
